Position Description
JOB SUMMARY:
This position will report to the Technology Manager with high guidance and involvement to other associates. The
person will create and lead groups and/or teams covering a wide variety of technical challenges and opportunities in
the areas of polyurethanes, plastics, and elastomers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide fundamental knowledge and understanding in the areas of materials chemistry, characterization
techniques, and structure-property relationship as it relates to polyurethanes, thermoplastics & thermosets, and
elastomeric materials/compounds.
• Relate intrinsic material properties and behaviors such as strength, modulus, hysteresis, elasticity, stability, tear &
growth, abrasion resistance, thermal/chemical resistance, fatigue, adhesion etc. to real-world product performance in
areas such as industrial/automotive hoses & power transmission belts, air springs, conveyor belts, vibration
dampening mounts.
• Lead, integrate, implement, and transfer technology in a multidisciplinary environment (e.g. cross-functional teams)
across functional areas.
• Achieve novel solutions by combining several different areas of technology.
• Develop problem solving design criteria and guidelines for contingency planning. Organize & facilitate workshops
and communications as required.
• Lead others that are responsible for intra & inter departmental projects.
• Demonstrate business value and technical solutions with long term plans.
• Anticipate & translate market trends or internal/external customer needs into technology solutions. Identify and
communicate business needs behind technology initiatives/strategy.
• Participate in professional associations outside the company including: membership, presentations, and
chair. Network with academia, government agencies, and/or national labs to understand current/upcoming related
technology developments.
• Communicate satisfactorily technical knowledge and experimental findings in both written and verbal formats to
peers, management, and support staff in a concise and clear manner.
Position Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or related field,
• 10 years technical experience formulating and processing polyurethane, plastic, and/or rubber materials from
laboratory through manufacturing.
• Analytical in nature, with experience as a multi-disciplinary collaborative solution seeker.
• Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean, Designed Experiments and systematic problem solving techniques
• Proficient in technical writing and communication to a diverse audience.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to progress simultaneously on multiple projects and remotely, all in global team
environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel both domestic & international.
• Willingness and ability to do hands-on work as required.
• Proficient in working with a variety of IT systems, including statistical analysis systems.
DESIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
• Ideal candidate will have significant experience in polyurethane chemistries and processes.
• Experience with thermoplastic materials and processes.
• Experience in rubber compounding and processing.
