PACE UNIVERSITY COOPERATIVE EDUCATION AND CAREER SERVICES
Annual Report 2005-2006
Executive Summary January 2007
Cooperative Education and Career Services experienced another productive, eventful year. I am pleased to
share with you the significant highlights, employment outcome data and all of the numerous activities the
dedicated, energetic staff was involved in. We recognize the important role we play in the recruitment, retention
and post-graduate success of our students. The wide range of services we provide are designed to support
students at all stages of their career development, from freshmen to alumni. Our mission is to guide students as
they enter their academic experience here at Pace with career information and exploratory activities, assist them
with preparation and placement in co-op internships, as well as ready them for post-graduate success.
The 2005-2006 academic year signaled a new direction for this department under my leadership which
commenced in January of 2006. One year later, I look back at the major accomplishments and initiatives our
team has implemented.
With the financial support of employers such as Goldman Sachs, Target Corporation and many others who
have provided financial sponsorships to our many events and career fairs, we have been able to continue to
provide subscriptions for our technical resources so valuable to students in today’s information age. Online
databases such as CareerSearch, the Vault Online Library, the eRecruiting database, an on-line recruitment site
where we post all job and internship opportunities, and career fair software module would not be affordable
without these contributions and fees collected from career fairs. In addition to technical resources, these
contributions made possible a complete renovation of the New York City campus common office space and
conference room, complete with painting and new furniture allowing for increased comfort for our students and
visiting recruiters. The conference room in Gannett House, Pleasantville was also upgraded with new furniture
and décor for a much more professional appearance.
A major innovation this year was the long anticipated career development course offered to students both on the
NYC and Pleasantville campuses. INT197 “Exploring Majors and Careers” was a joint collaboration between our
staff, the Center for Academic Excellence and Dyson College. The course was developed over several months
and was offered as a pilot in spring of ’06. 75 undecided freshmen and sophomores completed this one credit
course designed to guide them through the process of choosing a major and career, goal setting and decision
making. Ivy Aviles-Rivera, Assistant Director, Pleasantville and Carolyn Kleiman, Counselor, New York City
were our first instructors to teach this important new course.
As always, our innovative team has added new events to meet specific needs of students; transfer workshops,
an education career fair, practice interview days for education majors, Lunch & Learn series and National
Career Development Day festivities.
The employment data contained in this report was obtained through individual contact, mail and email surveys
conducted prior to graduation through six months following their degree completion. The following pages offer a
window into our students’ successes and the department’s varied activities of the past academic year.
