Pace University Career Services
Annual Graduation Outcomes and Internship Report 2009
Overview:
The impact of the economic downturn created the most challenging job market in over twenty-five years for the class
of 2009. More than 135,000 jobs were lost in NYC during 2008-2009 and the unemployment rate was close to 10%.
Pace University’s strong commitment to internships and other practice based experiences gave students an
advantage in this difficult job market. (Data collected on the Pace class of 2010 indicate an undergraduate
employment rate at graduation 10% above the national average.) Graduates from the class of 2009 who entered the
job market with experience gained through an internship, clinical, fieldwork or student teaching faired best: 62% of
students, who responded to our graduation survey, were employed. Almost half of all Pace undergraduates with
reported employment had secured their jobs on or before commencement and 88% were in jobs related to their field
of study.
Overall, Pace bachelor starting salaries were 3% higher than the national average; and Lubin BBA/MBA majors’
salaries were 18% higher. Fifty-six percent of Pace bachelor students reported salaries of $45,000 or more. While
Pace undergraduates’ salaries decreased slightly overall from last year, our master’s average salaries increased by
15%.
This report summarizes the significant employment highlights of the Pace Class of 2009 and internship activity from
2008-2009 with detailed school reports. With a 68% overall response rate to the graduation survey, a 79% increase
from 2008, we have more information than in any previous report; 70% of undergraduates and 64% of master’s
degree graduates provided us with information about their post-graduate activities.
