MASTER OF LAWS (LLM) SCHOLARSHIP Cycling and the Law A Master of Laws (LLM) scholarship is available for an able student to carry out research on the legal dimensions of energy efficiency in transport, focussing on cycling. The design of effective laws and regulations by energy efficiency requires a clear understanding of law and human behaviour in relation to energy use and energy efficiency, especially in transport. The particular research project that has been identified for the Scholarship is the treatment in law of cycling and cyclists. The student will work as part of the Faculty’s Centre for Environmental, Resources and Energy Law (CEREL). The research is part of the Energy Cultures II programme, funded by Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. Special preference will be given to a student who has an aptitude for working as member of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have an excellent Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent. He or she will research full-time at the University of Waikato. The scholarship is a great opportunity to get some financial support to carry out research on a matter that is important in dealing with climate change and urbanisation. The student will have a certain amount of flexibility in the research design, and will have the benefit of working in a lively multidisciplinary team. The scholarship provides a stipend of $16,000 plus up to $5,000 towards the cost of enrolment fees. It is expected the LLM will be by thesis only, fully committed to the analysis of how cycle transport is addressed in the legal system.
