3. Moving Images

Access Policy and Use Application
Moving Images Access Policy
The Center for the History of Psychology (CHP) houses over 10,000 moving images including research and
experimental footage, home movies, and educational films. The Moving Image Collection contains various
formats with 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, VHS tapes, and DVDs comprising the majority of the collection.
On-site access
Moving images are available for on-site viewing. Research appointments must be made at least two weeks in
advance. In accordance with archival standards and best practice, CHP does not project film for researchers. CHP
staff will either create a digital access copy or provide access to a tabletop viewer.
Off-site access
Moving images are available for off-site viewing. The CHP will provide patrons with a link to the requested
footage. The link will be active for seven days. Occasionally, the request for materials or research assistance is
too large for CHP staff to manage. These situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Access copies
The condition and copyright status of the material will determine if an access copy can be made. If an access
copy cannot be made on-site due to the condition of the materials, researchers can opt to pay for off-site
professional digitization. CHP retains all copies of the original title in its collection and researchers are not
permitted to duplicate footage via cameras, camcorders, screen capturing, or any other means.
In order to use materials from CHP’s Moving Image Collection, patrons must complete the Application to Use
Moving Images, read and agree to the Terms and Conditions, and pay all required fees.
