John A. LaGuardia oversees the
Alumni Association, Governmental Relations and the
Department of Development. During his tenure,
The University of Akron has consistently set annual
fundraising records for scholarships, endowments, buildings
and programs. This fundraising fully supports the
University’s new gold standard of performance and the
Vision 2020 strategic plan.
LaGuardia earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University. He was associate director of alumni relations
from 1971 to 1979, and director from 1979 to 1985. Following positions in the private sector, LaGuardia returned to
UA in 1994 as executive director of the Alumni Association and executive director of governmental relations.
