Discovery Search (DS) One box, better results The library’s redesigned website It still has all the information you need in a compact, easy to view design. There are some important visual differences. The links have been incorporated on the side and in the DS box. Research Guides, the library catalog, individual databases, chat, and quick links are all still available on the new home page. The links from old website are currently at the bottom of the new page and will be there through the end of the Spring 2015 semester. Each button on the DS Box will take patrons to important features including . . . . . . the catalog Which allows patrons to exclusively search physical books and eBooks in the library’s collection. . . . Research Guides. . . Which connect patrons to the best databases and websites over a particular subject. . . . the database list . . . An alphabetical database list which allows patrons to find and use specific databases. . . . A-Z Journal Finder. A-Z allows for title level searching and shows patrons the titles the library has access to and which databases they are in. And last, the Discovery Search Box Patrons can use the search box to search almost all the databases the library has including the library catalog all in one search box. Not all databases are included The hyperlink takes patrons to databases which are not searchable through Discovery Search. Start the Search • Typing a keyword allows users to bring up almost everything the library has on that particular topic in one step. • DS finds journal articles, books, eBooks, newspaper articles, and magazine articles so you don’t have to use multiple databases. • Results with higher relevance are ranked first. Refine Your Results • The left side of the page allows patrons to refine and narrow their search to something more specific. • Users can narrow their search based on date, subject, publication title, or source type (newspaper, books, scholarly journals). • Narrowing the search can be beneficial if there are too many results. Want additional help? • The Ask A Librarian box provides links to contact and work with librarians even when a patron is off-campus • Patrons will have the opportunity to schedule appointments with librarians for additional help Left-hand links • The links on the left side of the page provide information about the library’s hours, staff, and services. • The Quick Links also provide direct access to some of the library’s more important databases including: The Chronicle of Higher Ed., Gale, WestLaw, Ebsco, Proquest, TexShare, and Ebrary.
