Microsoft Security Essentials Install
1. NOTE: If you already have McAfee Anti-Virus software running on your computer, you MUST
first manuall uninstall McAfee. To do this, select Start – Control Panel – Add/Remove
Programs. Select McAfee and then click the Remove button to remove the program from your
computer.

2. To download Microsoft Security Essentials, navigate to:
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ and click on “Download Now”.
3. A pop-up window displays similar to the one below. Choose your operating system from those
listed.

4. You will be prompted to save the file. Click on “Save File”.
5. Choose the location to save the file.
6. After downloading the file, double-click on the file to begin the installion process.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you will be prompted with the User
Account Control asking whether the file is safe to open. Select “Yes”.

7. Click on Next to begin the install.
8. Click “I Accept” for the License Agreement.

9. After accepting, continue the install by clicking “Install”
10. The program will install. If you believe your computer may have threats, keep the box checked
to scan for threats after installing updates. Click on “Finish”. Make sure you are connected to
the Internet.

11. Let the computer go through the updating process, and finish scanning for viruses if you chose
to do so. After you are finished, the program should show that it is updated. This guide is the
same for all operating systems, except for the User Account Control dialogue box in Windows 7
and Vista.
