• National Qualification for
tenured University Professors
• Organized by broad sectors
• Engineering, Medicine, Law …
• Evaluation Committee of 5 fellows
• 4 Italian Full Professors randomly chosen from the list of
those whose cumulated IF, CI and # of papers are beyond the
medians + 1 non national
• Same criteria valid for candidates
• Then local contests to select from the eligibility lists

Management Engineering (SSD ING IND 35)
• About 250 Faculties
• 62 Full Professors

• 21 FP eligible to the Committee
• 15 candidates eligible to FP and 41 to AP
• Scientific publications are evaluated according to 4
different external sources: ABS, ISI, CNRS (F) and Scopus
• For each sources 4 categories are considered (either
scores or quartiles)
• Then 4 categories are elaborated to evaluate the
individuals’ cumulated production

Summary
• National qualifications necessary for both state-owned
and private universities
• Rigid and centralized system for tenure tracks vs.
increasing flexibility for visiting fellows and 2+2 yrs
contracts
• Strong emphasis on pure scientific publications (maybe
excessive). Tough debate on rigour/relevance
• Increasing competition due to the shrinking budget of the
Ministry of Education
• Difficult to be attractive in the international job market
