Educational Resources for College Instructors The Center for the History of Psychology is an excellent and useful learning resource for post-secondary instructors. There are a variety of ways for instructors to make use of the CHP’s offerings with their students. Book a class tour Students get up-close-and-personal with the history of psychology by touring the Center. Students make their way through the self-guided gallery, which features artifacts from the history of psychology, including Stanley Milgram’s simulated shock generator, items from the Stanford Prison Experiment, and a display on psychology and civil rights. Students are also taken on a tour of the CHP, including the collections storage areas, which contain the Center’s vast holdings of manuscripts, media, and artifacts. ►To book a group tour, contact Dorothy Gruich by email ([email protected]) or telephone (330-9727284). Instructors should allot approximately 2 hours for the gallery and tour. Attend a colloquium with your class From September to April, the CHP offers monthly informal colloquia or seminars on different topics in the history of psychology. Scholars from across the globe come to speak on their own area of expertise, followed by a Q&A session. The content is studentfriendly and other instructors have incorporated it into their coursework by asking students to write reaction papers on the seminar after attending. These seminars are free of charge and students are highly encouraged to attend. ►To find out the seminar schedule, go to (www.uakron.edu/chp/education/colloquium) or friend us on facebook. Updated by the CHP Education Committee on February 28, 2012 1 of 2 Assign an archival research project The CHP is happy to work with instructors to coordinate archival research and writing projects. Students can make use of the vast archival holdings of the CHP to write a term paper or complete a research project on some aspect of the history of psychology. Possible topics include a biographical portrait of a psychologist, a history of a particular instrument or apparatus in the history of psychology, a history of a given psychological test or scale, or a historical examination of some school or approach such as clinical, industrial, or child psychology. ►To get started, instructors should read the Instructor’s Guide for Creating Archival Projects , available on our website at www.uakron.edu/chp/education/). The CHP is happy to provide workshops on archival research methods at the CHP or the instructor’s institution. Have an idea? Need some help planning a class activity? We’d love to help!
