Student Conduct
Students in the ABE/GED/ESOL program are required to follow the San Juan College Student Code of Conduct. If the
event a student has violated the Student Code of Conduct, the student will follow the San Juan College Hearing
Procedures and Appeals Process.
Attendance
Students are required to attend class regularly. There is NO difference between excused and unexcused absences. If a
student registers the first month of the semester (August or January), the student is allowed 10 absences. If a student
registers the second month of the semester (September or February), the student is allowed 8 absences. If a student
registers the third month of the semester (October or March), the student is allowed 6 absences. If a student misses
more than his or her allowed absences in a semester or in an individual class, the student will not be allowed to return
to class for the remainder of the current semester and the following semester. Students can stay current with posttesting in the program by using the computer lab. The student will only be allowed to register in the San Juan College
Adult Basic Education program 3 times in his or her lifetime.
Post-testing
Students are required to complete a post-test after 40 hours of instruction. Instructors will inform students when
he/she is ready to complete a post-test. Students cannot attend class until a post-test has been completed.
Student Progress
The San Juan College ABE/GED/ESOL program provides services based on an adult learners ability to demonstrate
learning advancement and attain educational goal(s). Referrals to outside agencies will be addressed at the appropriate
professional and administrative levels, based on intake, pretest results and learning progress.
A student must show and maintain progress in at least 2 of 3 subjects upon post-testing. If a student does not show and
maintain progress in at least 2 of 3 subjects after 2 post-tests, the student’s enrollment in the ABE/GED/ESOL program
will go before a Review Committee for evaluation.
Students that reach the recommended GED scores in a particular subject(s) on the TABE test will complete the Official
Practice GED test in those subject(s). If the student has reached the recommended scores on the Official Practice GED
test in a particular subject(s) for taking the final GED test, the student must register and complete the final GED test in
the particular subject(s). Students must successfully complete all subjects of the final GED test in a 3-year period.
Students that do not successfully complete all subjects of the final GED test after 3 years in the program will go before
the Review Board for evaluation.
Materials required: Students are REQUIRED to bring the following items to class: Notebook, pencils
and/or pens. Students may be asked to leave class if he/she does not have these supplies.
I understand the Student Contract as stated above. I understand that if I do not follow the contract, I may not be able to complete the
program and could be terminated from the program. San Juan College Adult Basic Education program reserves the right to make exceptions to
the above stated policies on a case-by-case basis.
