Applications are available from your high
school counselor;
Cal1 the Upward Bound Classic office to request an application by mail; or
Come to the Upward Bound Classic office in
Ayer Hall Room 320 to pick up an application.
Applications must be submitted with:

U.S. Department of Education and The University of Akron.
The amount of federal funds awarded in the five year grant period
(2007-2012) is approximately $2,390,874.00.

What
Upward Bound Classic (UBC) is a federally funded
TRiO program which prepares 9th –12th grade students
in targeted Akron Public Schools for post-secondary education.
What Services Are Provided?
Tutoring in English/Language Arts, Math, Science,
and Foreign Language
Academic, Career, and Personal Advising
OGT Prep/Review
Upward Bound is designed to provide academic, cultural, and social
experiences for its students, enabling
them to develop the skills, attitudes,
and motivation necessary to enter
and succeed in college.
Upward Bound provides intensive academic support
services for income-eligible students to enhance the pursuit and achievement of a post-secondary education. It
provides academic enrichment in English, Mathematics,
Foreign Language, and Laboratory Sciences. The programs serves 100 students from

Eligibility
Upward Bound students must meet federal income guidelines and must be ―first generation‖ college students. Participants will be the first in their immediate family to acquire a baccalaureate degree. Students can apply to the
program at the end of eighth grade and anytime prior to
completing their sophomore year of high school.
