Think About It For a second year, all new University of Akron students are completing an online training module that helps them to think through various high-‐risk situations before they occur. The module, called "Think About It," covers sex, drugs/alcohol, healthy relationships and other scenarios that can be part of college life. “Think About It” is all about preparing our students to make informed decisions. The module presents sensitive subjects in a way that's engaging and informing. The program is part of the work being carried out by the University's Sexual Assault Resource Team. The team — comprised of faculty, students and staff from across campus — develops programs, services and campaigns to educate students about healthy relationships, with the ultimate goal of preventing sexual violence. The team works in concert with the Title IX Response Team, which coordinates the response and investigation of sexual harassment and sexual violence incidents involving the campus community. Why “Think About It” introduces students to a university-‐wide conversations on important issues such as sexual violence, gender identity and expression, and campus safety. The University of Akron is committed to supporting students. In order to accomplish that, it is necessary to ensure students are a part of this dialogue and are prepared to continue the conversation. This dialog can only begin after students have a common baseline of information The University of Akron is providing through “Think About It.” The University of Akron values a campus culture of safety and responsibility. By completing “Think About It” students gain skills, language, and tools necessary to help ensure they have the best experience possible. The University of Akron is proud of its growing population of non-‐traditional students, and we believe it's important for new students of every background to complete the program. Discrimination, harassment, and violence affect us all, regardless of age, gender, and any other identity. In addition, all students, faculty and staff at The University of Akron are protected under Title IX of Education Amendments of 1972. Even if students join a community well-‐versed in sex and gender equity, it's still important to understand rights as a member of this community. For these reasons, the course is required for all incoming non-‐traditional and distance learning students. Is It Required for Graduate Students Too Yes, for all new students.
