around you as you explore Earth’s
motion in space. Track the sun the way
ancient archaeoastronomers did and
build a secret calendar deep inside a
model pueblo. (25 max)
The Chaco Universe (ages 9-15)
900 years ago the San Juan Basin was a densely populated area with
perhaps more people than live in the Farmington area today! Explore
three of the major “urban” centers of the Chacoan people with a camp
that includes visits to Chaco Culture National Historical Park, Aztec Ruins
National Monument and Salmon Ruins. Work closely with park staff to learn about
the many ways we try to understand the ancient people. Stories, activities and
on-site visits will help participants step back in time. Sack lunches and snacks are
necessary for the Tuesday field trip to Chaco Canyon. (20 max)
Your moment in the sun!—kids kollege 2016
For a successful summer, read the fine print!
How to register
Visit the Community Learning Center (Room
1911 in the West Classroom Complex) to
register. If your child attended Kids Kollege
last year, register online. There is no phone
registration for Kids Kollege. Schedule
changes may be made by phone. All forms
are available at www.sanjuancollege.edu/
kidskollege.
In-person registration
• A parent or guardian will need to sign
the waiver; a copy is on page 39. If the form
is brought in by someone other than the
parent or guardian, it must be notarized
when you sign it. Otherwise, plan to sign
the waiver in person and our office staff will
witness your signature.
• You will need to provide either your
child’s social security number or your
child’s San Juan College ID number when
registering.
• We have provided a registration form
on page 40. Make extra copies as needed
for each additional child. If you fill it out and
bring it in, we will complete our portion and
make photocopies. You can also complete a
form in triplicate in person. Online registration for
returning students
Register from home or work with
convenient online registration. For detailed
directions visit
www.sanjuancollege.edu/kidskollege.
How to change your child’s
schedule
You may request to add a course only if the
class is not full and the request is made
before the second class meeting. Changes to
your child’s schedule must occur before the
second class meeting.
38
How to drop a class and
obtain a refund
To receive a refund on Kids Kollege classes,
withdraw your child from the class before
the second class meeting. Supply fees may
not be refunded. Requests for refunds made
after the second class meeting will not be
granted; you will be charged the full fee
for the class. For classes meeting daily for
one week, CLC staff must be notified of any
drops no later than 8:30 am the second day
of class. Most refunds take several days to
process and a check will be mailed to you
from San Juan College or charges to your
credit card will be credited.
Waitlists
If a class is full, consider placing your child
on a waitlist using our waitlist form. If your
child is next on the waitlist and another
student drops the class, we will notify you,
and you will have 24 hours to notify us that
you want your child registered. No child
will be added to a class that they are on a
waitlist for after the second class meeting.
Our waitlists are very effective and we
encourage you to use them.
Allergies and Medical
Conditions
Document all relevant allergies and
medical conditions on our form. Out of
consideration for students with severe
peanut allergies, peanuts and peanut
products are not allowed in Kids Kollege. Please take care in sending snacks and do
not send snacks with peanuts or peanut
products, even if your child has no allergies. Runners
Back to back classes? We’ve got
runners! Your child can move safely
between afternoon classes with our
trained runners. The Kids Kollege
program provides runners from
2:50 pm to 3:10 pm between
afternoon classes for all children
ages 4–11 enrolled in two back-toback afternoon classes.
• Children ages 4–5 stay in one
building only and are supervised
within that facility.
• Children ages 6–11 are escorted
across campus.
• Children attending classes
off-campus will not be provided
runners.
Pick-up and drop-off
It is the responsibility of parents
or legal guardians to timely drop
off and pick up your children.
Please deliver your child to his/her
classroom no more than 10 minutes
before the start of the class and pick
him/her up no later than 10 minutes
after the end of class.
• The Kids Kollege program closes
promptly at 5:15 pm every day.
• Parents are asked to sign all kids
in and out of classes.
• For kids ages 9–15, if you wish
your child to sign himself or herself
out of a class, send a signed written
note to the Kids Kollege program
with your child’s name clearly on
the note.
Please register early!
We generally cancel Kids Kollege classes on Thursday of the
week before classes, so please do not wait until the last minute to
register. Also, classes have a cap on enrollment and all classes are
filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Acknowledgement of Program Information, Authorization for Medical Treatment, and Release of Liability
I, as the parent or legal guardian of the child listed below,
acknowledge that I have been made aware of the following
information about the Kids Kollege program sponsored by San
Juan College:
1. Participation in the Kids Kollege program may
be physically or emotionally demanding. By signing this
Acknowledgement, I hereby state and affirm that my child is in
good health and that he/she is not under a physician’s care for
any undisclosed medical or psychological condition that bears
upon my child’s fitness to participate in Kids Kollege activities.
I have documented all known allergies and medical conditions
on the Kids Kollege Allergies and Medical Conditions form. I
acknowledge that out of consideration for students with severe
peanut allergies, Kids Kollege asks that parents do not send
snacks with peanuts or peanut products.
2. It is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian
to timely drop off and collect his/her child. The child should be
delivered to his/her classroom no more than 10 minutes before
the start of the class and collected no later than 10 minutes
after the end of class. The Kids Kollege program staff provides
runners from 2:50 p.m. to 3:10 p.m., between afternoon
classes, for all children, ages 6-11, enrolled in back-to-back
afternoon classes. Children ages 4-5 remain in one building (the
College’s Child & Family Development Center) with constant
supervision. A child attending classes off campus will not be
provided runners. Every child ages 4-15 must be signed in and
out of classrooms upon arriving and leaving the program. A
written letter must be on file if a parent chooses to allow his/
her child, ages 9-15, to leave class without supervision. Upon
receipt of said letter, this child will then be allowed to sign his or
her self in and out. Parents assume responsibility for their child
when signed out of class; there are no protocols in place for
your child’s safety after sign out. If the parent or legal guardian
of the child does not wish for the child to leave the premises
without the parent or without his/her explicit permission, he/
she must make that clear to the child. It is the responsibility of
the parent or legal guardian to ensure that the child knows who
is allowed to collect them. If there is a relevant restraining order
or custody agreement in place, a copy must be on file; contact
the CLC Director at 566-3121 or Assistant Director at 566-3690.
If a parent or legal guardian receives a call from Kids Kollege
requesting pick up of the child, the parent or legal guardian
must make arrangements to collect the child promptly.

Authorization for Medical Treatment
In the event my child is injured or becomes ill while participating
in the Kids Kollege program, I hereby authorize San Juan College
Kids Kollege program staff to administer first aid, arrange for
emergency medical transportation and treatment and to release
medical information provided on the Kids Kollege Allergies
and Medical Conditions form to emergency and health care
providers. I understand payment of these damages or medical
expenses is my responsibility.
1. Release of Liability
I, as the parent and/or legal guardian of the child enrolled in
San Juan College’s Kids Kollege, for myself, all family members,
or any other person claiming on behalf of my child, agree to
protect, defend, indemnify and hold harmless San Juan College
and its officials, agents and employees from any and all liability,
damages, injury, claims, suits, liens and judgments of whatever
nature arising from my child’s participation in the College’s Kids
Kollege.
I hereby attest that I am authorized to sign this
Acknowledgement, Authorization, and Release.

3. The Kids Kollege program closes promptly at 5:15
p.m. every day. Should a child not be collected by 5:15 p.m.,
staff will attempt to locate the parent or guardian. At 6:00
p.m., if the child has not been collected, this will be treated
as an instance of neglect/abandonment and a report will be
made to the State of New Mexico Children, Youth and Families
Department. The Farmington Police Department will be called
to transport an abandoned child to Childhaven. The parent
or legal guardian will be notified of this action by the Police
Department and/or Childhaven. If a parent or legal guardian
encounters an emergency and cannot pick up the child within
the times set forth above, please call 566-3214 to advise the
staff.
