Advanced Rock Climbing
with CHRIS KEATING
The Advanced Rock Climbing course will introduce students to
the concepts of planning and execution of a destination climbing
expedition. Explore a wide variety of climbing opportunities, as
the entire class will be held in the field and will visit a multitude of
climbing routes. Students will be exposed to all types of climbing from Bouldering to
Traditional Lead climbing. Students will also learn expedition behavior and planning,
crag safety, Leave No Trace, philosophies of ethics in leadership, navigation and
adventure climbing techniques. This course will prepare students to take that next
step towards AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Certification as well as improve personal
and professional resumes for employment after graduation. A required pre-meeting
will be held at the HHPC on Wednesday June 1 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Field trip will be
from Wednesday June 8 to Monday June 13. Students must have previous climbing
experience and permission of instructor is required to enroll. $150 lab/supply fee,
payable at registration, covers cost of the weekend field trip. For more information

Expedition Backpacking
with NATHAN HENKENIUS
If you enjoy hiking and/or backpacking then this class is a must.
Through-hike an exceptional trail just north of Durango while learning
all that is required to plan and initiate a long distance backpacking
expedition. Class will meet two times prior to field experience on
June 29 and July 6 from 5:30-8:30 pm and then leave for the expedition on July
11 through 16. Class will be in remote areas at high elevation for most of the field
class with the opportunity to summit three 14,000 foot mountains! Lab fee of $150
covers transportation, train tickets, food, permits and equipment. Students must
be in good physical condition and able to carry up to 60 lbs for extended amounts

Want to try your first triathlon? Our
target race will be the Four Corners
Sprint and Xterra Triathlon to be held
in Shiprock on August 6. The sprint
triathlon will consist of a 500-yard pool
swim, 12-mile road bike, and 3.1-mile
run. The Xterra sprint triathlon will be
the same distance, but with the bike and
run on easy dirt trails. Get personalized
swimming instruction, running shoe
information, answers to all of your gear
questions and a short mock triathlon so
you’ll be ready on race day! Race entry
fee not included. Swimsuit, goggles,
bicycle, bicycle helmet and running

Bagua Zhang, a sister art to Taijiquan
and Xing Yi Quan, is best known for
its practice of “Walking the Circle” in
various postures and stances. With roots
in Daoist and Buddhist meditation, all
styles of Bagua Zhang walk the circle
as a major part of their training. Bagua
Zhang involves changing direction within
the circle by executing short forms
called Palm Changes, and techniques
that employ the whole body in coiling
and uncoiling with quick whirlwind
movements. Classes are taught in a
relaxed manner and modeled after
the traditional Chinese training hall

College of Virginia in 1998 and a Master’s in Nursing with a
special concentration in family practice in 2001, also from
Virginia Commonwealth University. Over the past eight years
Bronwyn has been studying and utilizing Functional Medicine,
Energy Medicine and Mind Body Medicine (MBM) in her

Natural Arches of San Juan County

Discover the beauty of area arches and how to
access them safely and easily. Discuss the different
types of arches and the geological process that
enables them to naturally form. Learn about the Natural
Arch and Bridge Society, which is a non-profit organization
dedicated to the discovery, identification, enjoyment and
preservation of natural arches around the world. Begin the
experience with an orientation class, followed by an all-day
field trip to visit 10 or more of Larry’s favorite arches in the
local area. The field trip will begin at the Wines of the San
Juan, 233 Highway 511, Blanco, NM at 8:45 am, where
we will pool vehicles where possible and depart at 9:00
a.m. Bring a lunch. 4x4 vehicles or all-wheel drive vehicles
recommended, as we will encounter some sandy spots and

If you are a returning student and you have not used your
San Juan College username and password within the past six
months, begin by resetting your password at

The campus logon account is the account you use to log on
to campus computers, the San Juan College portal and online
registration. Your user ID is the first letter of your first name,
the first letter of your middle name (if you do not have a
middle name, this letter will be skipped), the first 12 letters of
your last name and the last two digits of your social security
number. Example:
Student name: Bubba L. Schwarzenegger
Social security #: 123-45-6789
7) CLICK Submit
User ID: blschwarzenegg89
8) CHECK the box next to the course and CLICK Submit
The default password is sjcp + the last four digits of your social
security number. For example, if your social security number is

Registering Minors
Registration for a student under age 18 is not complete until a parent or guardian signs a waiver form in person at the
Community Learning Center or East or West campuses.
Methods of Payment
We accept cash, checks (payable to San Juan College), money orders, purchase orders and Visa, MasterCard or Discover.
Cancellations & Refunds
If a course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, fees will be fully refunded. It is not necessary for the student to request a
refund for cancelled classes.
To receive a refund on classes lasting less than one week, you must withdraw from the class 72 hours before the class begins.
To receive a refund on classes lasting more than one week, you must withdraw from the class no later than one day prior to the
second meeting. If you withdraw online, you must call 505-566-3803 for a refund.
Register early!
There is a point when a decision must be made to cancel a class due to low enrollment. Also, classes have a cap on enrollment
and all classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. So please register early! NO registrations will be taken at class.

Photo IDs San Juan College photo IDs are required for
fitness classes at the Health and Human Performance Center
(HHPC). HHPC staff will create this free ID; please allow a few
extra minutes before your first class. You will not need a new ID
for subsequent semesters.
