The active force of currere and the
transition to a green economy
In this presentation I shall explore the role that education could play in the
transition to a green economy. I do so by invoking the conceptual power of currere
(its active force) to express the green economy in multiple ways—ways that are
unforseen by us.
The presentation draws on Jason Wallin’s work and his Deleuzian reading of the
etymological root of curriculum, currere - that curriculum is not a name attached
to something but a way of approaching the world. The active force of curriculum is
contrasted with its territorialised form, its reactive force, that severs currere from its
potential to create flows, movement and connections, and to expand difference.
