FMD, University of Waikato Issue No: 6 – December 2002 Kia Ora Koutou ! In the short while I've been here as the Campus Constable there have been a variety of things to deal with, on and off campus. I have certainly noticed that when the locals of a community are vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to us, crimes soon learn that they can’t even walk through the place without someone watching and reporting it. They soon go elsewhere looking for an 'easier' touch. That’s generally how they work - looking for something for nothing - another’s inattention or lax security - whether its leaving a vehicle insecure or valuables in view, or not reporting suspicious behaviour - then becomes the crimes opportunity. They don’t care who it belongs to. It could be yours or your mates. Don’t give them the chance. I would just like to encourage you all to keep an eye open. If you don’t see anything, then open the other eye and when you see anything suspicious call us ASAP. Congratulations on some good catches (and scares) so far. Keep it up. With the festive season upon us, I am reminded of something once said to me by a wise person - "wherever you go, there you are!" (.. so be sensible and you wont go / end up where you don’t want to be). Have a great and safe Christmas and New Years. We welcome 2 new faces to the Grounds team Pere Paea, Community Constable Health & Safety Issues: First Aid Kits: St John's have recently brought all of the first aid kits up to date.
