Facilitation Issue no 44 - August 2006

FMD, University of Waikato
Issue No: 44 – August 2006
Excellence in Health & Safety Award
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Roy Crawford presented the Excellence in Health & Safety Award to Mark Thompson and the team
from the Grounds staff on 22nd August.
Introducing Toni Welch,
the FMD HR Advisor
Hi, I am the new Human Resource
Advisor for FMD. I commenced with
the University in November 2005 and
am still adjusting to firstly returning to
full time work after a break and secondly
the unusual/challenging tertiary environment.
I am new to Hamilton, a previous life as a Jaffa and am
passionate about snow skiing, tramping, my family and pets and
of course my ‘MG’. I look forward to meeting the staff in the
Division and being of assistance.
I can be contacted on ext 8027 or my official office is B3.13.
7th Alumni Revue - Jack & the Kiwifruit Vine
The University is in dire straits but Jack and his cow help to
save the day! Budget woes are solved with this witty Roald
Dahl style script. Featuring special appearances by Prof. Doug
Sutton, Prof. Roy Crawford, Bryan Gould and the Cow. There
are several FMD staff appearing in this production – come and
see who they are!!
Two fantastic shows! Thursday 28th Sept in Tauranga at
Baycourt and Friday 29th Sept in the Concert Chamber at
the Academy.
Tickets on sale now. At the Alumni Office, B-annex,
opposite end in Security building next to B block.
$18ea or $14ea for 10 or more. Some tickets have been
reserved for FMD staff (an email has been sent out to get
names of those interested) so that we can get the discounted
$14 tickets.
2006 TEFMA Conference
John Cameron, Tony Dicks and Trevor Harris had the
privilege of a recent visit to Sydney to attend the TEFMA
annual conference. All in all it was a very good experience -the organisation of the conference was excellent, the
presentations were good, the site visits were very interesting,
it was good seeing old acquaintances and making some new
ones, the weather was warm, the traffic was crazy, the sights
of Sydney were impressive as always -- but we are all agreed
that it is good to be back home again!
This little frog was found by the Grounds staff in the Fernery!
Because the All Blacks have done so well lately the Kiwis
didn't have to take too much stick from their Aussie
counterparts! There'll be some pictures on the Shared Drive
in due course.

FMD Social Club update
BEING A KIWI
Being a Kiwi is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a
Belgian beer, and then traveling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a
Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch
American shows on a Japanese TV.

Only in N.Z. ... can a pizza get to your house faster than
an ambulance.
Only in N.Z. ... do supermarkets make sick people walk all the

Only in N.Z. ... do people order double cheeseburgers, large
fries and a DIET coke.
Only in N.Z. ... do banks leave both doors open and chain the
pens to the counters.
Only in N.Z. ... do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars on
the drive and & lock our junk and cheap lawn mower in the
garage.
Only in N.Z. ... do we use answering machines to screen calls
and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from
someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.
Only in N.Z. ... are there disabled parking places in front of a
skateboard park.
