Facilitation Issue no 46 - November/December 2006

FMD, University of Waikato
Issue No: 46 – November/December 2006
Once again it’s that time of the year where we all head off to do family things together and have a bit of a break after
what has been a long, and in some respects quite hard year. Having said that it was long, it seems to me each year
is shorter than the one before and Christmas comes around faster and faster!!
There have been a lot of people within FMD who have contributed to making the year successful as well as fun, but
I will only pick out a couple of people for special thanks.
Firstly, there is Tom Reidy and all of the Social Club team who do such a great job of organising functions, events, and
journeys for us all. I am strongly supportive of the role that the Social Club plays and believe it is of great benefit to the
cohesiveness of the division. The second person I think deserves mention here (even though she wont like typing this), is Judy, who
is the “glue” who holds together a lot of the things that happen within Facilities Management (and also assists me to remember
things that I might otherwise forget)! Many others of course have also contributed, both to the social aspects of FMD, and to the
work aspects. Overall I congratulate all Facilities Management staff on providing what I believe to be a very high quality and
professional service to the University.
Have a great break at Christmas; hopefully we will get some fine weather(!) and I look forward to seeing you back in the New Year,
refreshed and full of the joys of another year at the coal face!!
Facilitation Feedback: In issue 45 of Facilitation we asked for feedback on the FMD
Best wishes for the Xmas Season, John Cameron
newsletter (frequency and info you want to see). Two responses were received (one
wanted it cancelled and the other waned it more often). Looks like we will continue as is!
Library Rejuvenation
Overcome with joy at the rejuvenation of the Library foyer and ‘newlook’ ecafe area, University Librarian Annette McNicol and her staff
put on a special morning breakfast on Friday 10th November.
Specially invited guests were Geoff Lentz of Antanas Procuta
Architects and Trevor Harris of FMD, who each received a ‘thank
you’ gift from Annette to mark the occasion, as the accompanying
picture shows. Trevor had the honour of cutting the ribbon to the
refurbished ecafe area which, along with the revamped entrance,
has drawn nothing but praise from its users. PS: Trevor very
generously shared his gift of Tim -Tams with all those in FMD
associated with the project.”

Taken at the Tainui Waka Sports Awards 2006 held on 27th
October at the Endowment College. Te Karu nominated his
mokopuna (Maioro Barton) who eventually won the 2006
Junior Sportsman of the Year Award. He is a paraplegic
basketball player.
Maioro played for NZ Basket Ball and only returned from
Ireland in September where they had gone for the World
Games and they got the Silver Medal. He has received a lot
of awards over the last few years representing Waikato and
NZ at his chosen sport.
Christmas Under the Stars was held at the University on 2 nd December

Xmas Social 1 December – written by Tony Dicks, pictures by Ray Hayward
As it got dark on the evening of the 1st, the saloon came to life and all the cowboys, cowgirls, hombres and sheriffs
gathered for their annual hoe-down at the Don's favourite hang-out. Only one Indian squaw dared show her face maybe there were just too many mean critters around who had six-guns in their hands and firewater in their bellies.
Wayne was the best and the College Hall team with their wagon made a grand entrance, Faye's notices were great
and Ray was a pest with his camera!
All in all a great evening for all - our thanks to the team who did the arranging!.
