FMD, University of Waikato Issue No: 47 – January/February 2007 The Rev Team – written by Clive - (left to right in picture on the right are): Clive Hobson, Michelle-Jordan Tong, Mary Jane Waddington & Tony Dicks It was a great day and a great race (which we won by the way!!) not that winning makes it a great day, mind you it helps. I reckon that more people should give it a go but try to steer clear of French pass. Its as tough as people say and when you get to my age its worse! The girls did great and both took at least 10 mins off their allotted times, but what did impress me was the poise of balance of our illustrious leader, Tony (Lance Armstrong) Dicks. I tried riding with him to assist on his leg of the race but I kept falling off my bike. Many thanks to all our sponsors and support team – well done Laurie Drummond!! My Work: Although just new to this job; (Parking Attendant) I feel this job was made specifically for me. I have never really worked in an environment that was not positive in every aspect. This is great. Who knows, this job may see me through to retirement? That’s if I don’t kick the bucket first! Super 14 Rugby competition: -------------A change of title and perspective from mid January from maintenance carpenter to projects supervisor. No stranger to FMD or the University after nearly two years in the previous position, it is great to still be part of the same team and to try and continue the good work being done around the campus. Away from work I live in Morrinsville with my wife Sue and our adult son Chris, our daughter Elizabeth lives in Hamilton with her partner Damian. I, like most males, have lots of interests and not enough time to fit them all in. Most days I ride my motorbike to work, sometimes I cycle. Sue and I try to walk together everyday either morning or evening or both. Golf once or twice a year and fishing a few times a year are slotted in with gardening, developing a new home section and riding/driving around the country. I belong to the Morrinsville Rotary club and, along Sue, the Hamilton Ulysses motorcycle club. We are now into our fifth week of the Super 14 rugby competition. This is proving to be a lot harder this year with no Work offers the challenge of dealing with many and people and certainties. Don’t forget to get your entry fees in, and keep situations which I find to be mainly enjoyable and stimulating. --- Neil Hindman those selections coming in!! Language Institute - Auckland Wednesday before Christmas 2006 is not the ideal time to move 85cubic metres of furniture from Auckland to our storage space at RS1. Complications arose with short notification of the move, and an already busy time for furniture moving companies. Crown Relocations stepped up to the plate by providing (at short notice) a brand new truck built especially for business relocations. Any move out of premises situated in the Auckland Central Business district can be complicated. Luckily Crown was able to organise parking for the trucks outside the front door of the premises and the move commenced at 8.00am. At 6.00pm the lifts in the building could only be activated by using a security key (of which we had only one) sometimes stopping completely, for no apparent reason. Further complications arose when (at 7.00pm) it became clear; there was not enough space on the truck to take everything to be moved. Crown managed to locate a truck and driver returning from Wellington staff). After unloading that truck elsewhere, the driver and 2 other staff members returned and assisted with loading the remainder of the furniture, finishing at 10.30 at night. I suppose we should get used to this site. st On the morning of 31 January, as I arrived at work this balloon was below the tree line below B Block. Ray Hayward Unloading the next morning Thursday) commenced at 9.00am with the furniture now nearly filling our storage at RS1. An interesting move made much easier by a committed team of professional movers and the staff of the Language Institute in Auckland. Laurie Drummond Refrigerant gas - Type R22 FMD SOCIAL CLUB UPDATE By 2010 it will be illegal in Europe to use newly manufactured (so-called virgin) HCFCs to recharge air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Although recycled fluids will be allowed, the supply of these will be shrinking and their use banned altogether by 2015 – possibly even earlier under growing pressure form environmental groups. RAFFLES: Please support the raffles – without them there would be no social club. Money is to be paid in each week. The $2 man this year is Phil Whyte so please give your raffle money to him. As there have been some people pull out of the raffles we have some numbers available in both the Lotto and Raffle for anyone wanting a regular weekly number. It saves the raffle seller lots of time if people have a regular number and pay weekly for these numbers. If you have a regular number and are planning to be away from work, please pay in advance for the weeks you will not be here. Its only $2 a week!!!!! SOCIAL CLUB COACH TRIP TO ROTORUA: There will be a bus trip to Rotorua, plus a th Drop in replacement gases may become Boat Trip (lunch time meal on board) on 12 May. If you are interested put your names on available but the price may be prohibitive the sheet in the FMD tearoom. The costs of this trip will be provided closer to the time. and the performance of equipment will suffer. The dirty little secret about hybrids is that their batteries and extensive use of aluminium If you are considering buying a new refrigerator, or air conditioner, especially form the discount retailers such as the warehouse, be aware of these factors prior to completing your purchase. Ensure you ask. parts make them costly to build in energy terms as well as financial terms. One life-cycle assessment claims that, from factory floor to scrap heap, a Prius consumes more energy even than a Hummer III. Diesels are unlikely to consume anything like as much over their lifetime. That could change, of course, if some bright spark decides to replace a hybrid's petrol engine with a diesel--to launch a family car capable of 100mpg. Now there's a thought.
