FMD, University of Waikato Issue No: 51 – June 2007 Mid Year Social on the Waipa Delta Friday evening, 22nd June, was a really enjoyable one for the members of the FMD Social Club. We all boarded the “Waipa Delta” just before 7 pm, got settled in to the cosy and comfortable atmosphere on board and soon we were under way. It didn’t matter too much to most of us where we were heading as it was too dark to see – we just set about enjoying the occasion. The evening was a great success because all the ingredients were there – great service by the very friendly crew on board, more than enough really good food, plenty of cold, refreshing drinks, lots of laughter and banter, music accompaniment that even got some people dancing. Before we knew it, it was all over - we were back at the dock and it was 10 pm. Once again a very enjoyable and entertaining event from our Social Club. Well done to the Committee! Keep it up! Here’s a few pictures taken on the night – more of these are available to FMD staff in the shared drive – Q:\FMD all\Waipa Delta cruise 22 June 07\waipa delta (write-up and photos from Tony Dicks) Mark Thompson’s OE: The “deferred” OE trip finally happened!! As you can see, we have almost halved the number of events in 2006 with 9 reported, compared to 15 events reported in 2005. WELL DONE FMD!!! These 9 events comprised of 5 accidents and 4 incidents, with the trend tending to be of strains and sprains. It is also pleasing to note that our Grounds staff got a special mention in the report for not only being the winners of the 2006 Vice-Chancellor’s Health & Safety Award but for their speedy repairs made to environmental tripping hazards around campus, keeping the university grounds a hazard free space. "Nobody notices what I do, until I don't do it!" *** *** *** "Whoever said, 'If you do something right the first time, you won't have to do it again', obviously never weeded a garden!" Although FMD had a great year in reducing the number of accidents, there is still a concern that they are not being reported to our Health and Safety coordinator soon enough or in some cases, not being reported at all. Please ensure that you fill out an accident/incident form and report to Katria Raffan within 48hrs of the event occurring. If this is not possible due to time off work, please make sure that your line manager is aware of the accident and he/she can report it to Katria on your behalf. A copy of the complete annual report has been put on the Health and Safety notice board in the FMD tearoom or you can view it in our FMD shared folder on Q drive (FMD all/Health & Safety/H&S Reports). Facilitation will be produced monthly.
