Drew McDonald and Mark Sullivan have been working away quietly in the background over the last few months to
restore the lighting on the clock faces of B Block. The picture below shows what a neat job they've done, all thanks
to LED technology and some hard work.
So, next time you are passing by in the evening, remember to glance up at the tower on your way past.
Over the years we have added quite a few lighting elements to the views from Hillcrest Road, the most prominent
being:

of the CD Link
along the pathway next to Law
of the stained glass over the Faculty of Education entrance
So remember to keep an eye open for these too.

From the 2nd May I was in Rotorua doing an Electrical
Applicance serviceperson course. The course was run by
the ETCO, and was about learning how to fix electrical
appliances that have a “plug top” on them - up to 250V.
There was five days of mostly class work, with the odd bit
of practical, then the exam on Saturday morning, which I
think went well. I have to wait until the end of June to
get the results back.
The week in all was very good and I learnt a lot.

Social Club Trip

We were able to manage a fine day for our trip this time. Joe was our ‘Go Bus’ driver for the day and we had
enough time to stop at Mercer on the way for some of us to have breakfast & stretch our legs. A missed exit off the
motorway meant a slight detour but we got to Half Moon Bay marina by our 10am deadline. The’ Kawau Isle’
skippered by Paul and Cath was all set for departure when we got there. Paul did a running commentary for us on
our way over to Waiheke while Cath provided us with
some morning tea. The sea did get a bit rough at
times and an hour & 40 minutes later we arrived at
Waiheke. A picnic lunch was prepared for us by Cath
which we ate at a small park area near the dock.
We had time to wander around the marina area (with
a few of us walking into town) an hour later headed
back to Auckland. On our way home we had a stop at
Mercer again and got back to FMD at 5.30pm.
Everybody enjoyed their day and are looking forward
to the next day out. Those of you who did not
participate you might like to seriously consider it next
time. You will be most welcome. More the merrier!

Possum Hunt
Last week while doing my check of the Fernery I met up with a University staff member whom pointed out a
sleeping grey possum positioned in the very centre of a silver fern about 4 metres tall. On the phone to the Possum
Busters (pictured) also Nan behind the camera. Without giving too many details let’s just say, don’t expect a possum
fur hat just yet. Anyways traps have been set and await a result!!! Possums are known to eat native birds and eggs,
prefer new fresh growth to old leaves and can destroy the forest quickly.
