Student Programmer Position Description 2016-2017 ($800 stipend per semester) The Student Programmers are an elite group of students who gain valuable work experience through planning and coordinating student-led events sponsored by the Student Activities Board (SAB) of Associated Students of San Juan College (AS/SJC) and Student Activities. The SAB provides student-led social/recreational, cultural, and educational activities for San Juan College students. Student Programmers are current students selected on the basis of leadership, scholarship, professionalism and desire to promote San Juan College events and programs. Student Programmers uphold the philosophy, mission and goals of San Juan College by serving at the many events and activities the college provides. Student Programmer Qualifications Must be enrolled in 6* (Summer term) 8* (Fall & Spring term) or more credit hours per semester and stay enrolled throughout the semester at San Juan College Must have and maintain 2.50* GPA or higher Have at least 1 semester to contribute to program (preferably 2) Practice and uphold professionalism including responsibility, dependability and punctuality Sincere desire to represent SJC, AS/SJC and Student Activities as a Student Programmer Student Programmer Responsibilities All programmers are responsible for the following duties, in addition to the specific tasks of the position, as outlined below: A minimum of 5 hours per week, including weekly Student Activity Board (SAB) meeting, programmers meetings and other committees as assigned. Work collaboratively with team members and the Student Activities staff to plan, promote, coordinate student programming at San Juan College. Must represent San Juan College with professionalism at all times. Be a leader and a positive example to others. Operate with a clear understanding of the College’s mission, policies, and procedures. Hold other programmers and ambassadors accountable. Maintain a supportive team by attending & contributing to other sponsored events. Play an integral role in creating a fun, lively, and vibrant campus. Attend training, retreats and leadership programs. Maintain positive working relationships with AS/SJC, Student Ambassadors, Student Activities Office, and other campus constituents. Maintain organized files such as: sample forms, contacts, correspondence, flyers, maps, contracts, listings of event vendors, sponsors, presenters, etc. Advertise and market events. Provide feedback and debrief of events. Assist other programmers with events as needed. Keep work stations and office area clean. Maintain a clean, organized and functional Student Activities closet. Student Programmer Incentives $800 stipend per semester. A third of the $800 will be awarded at each third of the semester. Access to the Student Activities Student Leadership space (open computers and printers, microwave, refrigerator, etc.) Further development of career skills and experience for resume and opportunity for letters of recommendation. Great segue into student government and other leadership opportunities. Nomination into National Society of Leadership and Success Nominations onto campus committees Exposure to various campus involvement opportunities Campus recognition Meeting new people and establish personal and professional contacts Leadership training Other Information All responsibilities are required, as stated above, to receive stipend and other program incentives Programmers are responsible for notifying Student Activities staff if they are unable to make their scheduled event (within 24-hours of event start-time). If missing an event, programmer must makeup missed event with an equivalent event that semester. (2) Unexcused absences from an assigned event or weekly meeting may result in termination of the Student Programmer by the discretion of Student Activities Staff. Mandatory Events o o Fall 2016 1.
