behind the glue spiders use to spin their webs. This
marks another achievement where UA is taking a
leadership role in collaboration with regional partners
and the medical community.
The Industrial/Organizational Psychology program

Dr. Timothy Matney, associate professor of
archaeology, led an international team of
archaeologists that discovered the remains of a palace
from the ancient Assyrian Empire last summer.
Fox 8 News now has a broadcast facility in Kolbe Hall,
home of UA’s Z-TV station!
E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall has been called one
of the most beautiful and flexible performance halls in
the world by New York Times architectural critic Ada
Huxtable.
Z-TV is a MULTIPLE Emmy award-winning television
production facility and has been nominated for Emmys
nine times since 2005.
UA School of Dance Assistant Professor Robin
Prichard’s choreography is “noted for its wit and
vulnerability” by LA Weekly.
Graphic design students, faculty and a graduate of the
Mary Schiller Myers School of Art have won 14 ADDY
awards for advertising design excellence.
Ranked by BusinessWeek magazine as one of the best
undergraduate business schools in the US for three
consecutive years.
The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy is
nationally ranked by the Public Accounting Report for
the second year in a row.
The Sales Management program is one of only 13
certified, professional sales programs in the world.

The Taylor Institute is the nation’s premiere direct

UA has one of Ohio’s three largest teacher preparation
programs.
The College of Education holds accreditations from six
higher education accrediting bodies, including NCATE
and the Ohio Department of Education.
The College of Education operates seven centers and

College of Engineering
Our College of Engineering became the first in the
nation to offer an undergraduate degree in corrosion and
reliability engineering.
nCorrosion and Reliability Engineering is the only bachelor’s
degree program of its kind in the US.
n The Department of Defense has contributed more than $11
million to corrosion engineering at UA, supporting research,
facilities and scholarships.
n Engineering students have won more national design team
competitions than all other Ohio universities and colleges
combined.
n The co-op program is one of the oldest in the nation. Students
alternate semesters of class with paid employment and
graduate with 12 months of full-time experience.
n Enrollment in the college has increased 77 percent in the last 10
years, making it the fastest growing college of engineering in
the United States.

College faculty members have generated over 160 active patents and have licensed technologies that have been

UA’s Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering program is ranked second in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
College of Health Professions
UA’s nursing graduates have an annual average pass
rate of 95 percent on the National Council Licensure
Examinations, far exceeding the national average.
n Social work students gain experience in field placements
with more than 200 social service agencies throughout
the region.
n In the past five years, graduates of The University of
Akron’s Coordinated Dietetics Program have achieved a
90 percent pass rate on the national exam for dietitians,
far exceeding the national average.
n Three specialized facilities in Speech-Language Pathology

Summit College offers nationally accredited associate and
baccalaureate degree programs in a variety of technical
areas.
Summit College offers the only Bachelor of Science
in Emergency Management in Ohio, and the first
accredited Emergency Management degree program in

Scholarships – Admission deadline is March 1 for
scholarship consideration. Awards range from $1,000
to $6,000 for most students and up to full tuition. The
awards are based on a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
and 21 ACT/990 SAT.
Honors College scholarships are in addition to University
scholarship awards and range from $1,500 to $4,500 for
most students.
