Dr. Sonal Singh is currently working as Head of the School of S tudies in Library & Information
Science, Vikram University, Ujjain. As a product of Vikram University, Ujjain, she did her M.Sc.
in Zoology and secured V position in University. Turning to Library Science, she completed
B.Lib. securing III Rank in University, M.Lib. and Ph.D. in Library Science from Vikram
University. She also did B.Ed., PGDCA, Sangeet Visharad in Kathank Dance, Bachelor degree in
Vocal Music and Diploma Courses in Vastu and Fengshui. In addition to books and research
papers, she has contributed many articles in Hindi in State Level News papers to make the general
public aware of the importance of library, thereby creating interest in library reading and
contributing in the intellectual upliftment of the society. She is a very good orator having equal
competency in Hindi and English. She has delivered many Radio Talks in Hindi and English. She
is a course writer and editor for open universitie s. She is a member of Expert Committee at
NCERT to develop a training manual for SCERT/SIET,DIET and School Librarians. She has also
translated SOUL Software manual in Hindi so as to help the LIS professionals of Madhya Pradesh
and other Hindi speaking States. She has been a key note addresser, Chief Speaker, Chairperson,
Resource Person and Guest of Honour in many National & Regional Conference and Seminars.
She is working as Subject Expert with commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology
(Ministry of Human Resources), Govt. of India in preparation of definitional dictionary of Library
and Information Science. She is a member of Professional Women’s Advisory Board, American

Multidisciplinary Journal ‘Review of Research [ISSN : 2249-894X], Member of Editorial Board
of ‘Indian Streams Research Journal’ (ISRJ) [ISSN: 2230-7850], Member of Advisory Board for

She was Regional Secretary for IATLIS 2003-05. She is also a member of committee on
‘Empowerment of Women in Promotion of IT in Education’. She was the member of Advisory
Board of the III International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and
Information Services, 2012. She has 25 years experience of Teaching and Research in addition to
seven years experience of Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central Govt.) Librarianship. She also selected
through PSC as College Librarian securing III position in order of Merit, and got appointment at
Govt. Girls College, Mandsaur (MP) but did not join. 13 Scholars have been awarded Ph.D. under
her supervision. She also supervised Dissertation of 35 M.Phil. Students and 26 MLIS students.
She is the expert member of Board of Studies and Research Degree Committee of different
Universities. She is an active member of online group LIS Links, A virtual community of Indian
LIS professionals, DAVV, NODLINET, INFLIBNET, IATLIS, SALIS, ASDOLIS, IASLIC,
DELNET, ILA and Vikram University. She actively participates in LIS group s- Library.com,
ETTLIS, LIS Express, Library E resource management, society for library and IT professionals
(SLIP), Libraries of India, Library and Information Science groups, Digital Libraries, ISLD
International Sustainable Library Development Internet Group.
