2012 Rogue River Use Summary
Actual Use:
12,003 people total, commercial and noncommercial, floated the wild Rogue River in the
2012 regulated use season, May 15 through October 15.
o 18,480 people is the maximum number that could float the wild Rogue in the
regulated use season. (120 people per day for the 154 day regulated use season)
65% of all possible spaces were used in 2012
Use on the Rogue increased slightly during the regulated use season over last year. Total use was up by 88 people (+ 1%).
Commercial use totaled 5,037 people. This is a decrease of 112 people (-2%) compared to 2011.
Noncommercial use totaled 6,966 people. This is an increase of 200 people (+3%)
compared to 2011.
Pre-Season Scheduled Use versus Pool Use:
Commercial Use - Calendar versus Pool: total 5,037 people
o 88% (4,438 people) of the spaces came from the commercial calendar
o 12% (599 people) of the spaces came from the pool
Noncommercial Use - Lottery versus Pool: total 6,966 people
o 46% (3177 people) of the spaces came from the lottery
o 54% (3789 people) of the spaces came from the pool
Cancellations: total of 11,968 spaces cancelled, scheduled and not used
o Commercial cancellations - 5008 (42%) of the total cancellations.
o Noncommercial cancellations - 6960 (58%) of the total cancellations.
Maximum Capacity Days:
3 days, or 2% of the time, the Rogue was filled to the 120 persons-per-day capacity. (154
days in the season). 2 days in July and 1 day in August reached capacity.
8 other days had 1 to 5 openings by the end of the day. Two of those were in July and six in
August.
There were 113 party leaders that signed up on the “No-Show” waiting list for 55 different
dates from May 26 to September 28. Eighty-three of those party leaders were
noncommercial and 30 were commercial.
Non-Commercial Lottery:
4,997 Applicants
721 Successful Applicants were awarded Float Permits
8,011 Float Spaces were scheduled through the 721 successful lottery applicants
Noncommercial Party Information:
1203 parties were issued permits
Average party size was 6 (5.79)
Party leader’s state of origin: Oregon - 800 (67%), California - 226 (18%), Washington –
97 (8%), Other – 80 (7%)
