RESOURCES
for SAN JUAN COLLEGE
Advising
Students new to SJC start in the Advising and
Counseling Center on main campus. New students
are required to take the Accuplacer, meet with an
advisor, and attend a new student orientation session
prior to registering for classes.(See page 6 for more
advising times and locations). Transfer students
should bring unofficial transcripts to their advisor
appointment in lieu of taking the Accuplacer.
Continuing students who have completed fewer than
25 credit hours are required to meet with their
advisor prior to registering for the next semester. All
other students are encouraged to meet with an advisor
each semester.
Advisors are available to:
• Assist you in planning your degree path
• Provide information about course content
• Assist you in determining the sequence of
your coursework
• Assist you in defining and meeting your goals
• Answer your questions as you navigate your
way around college

Bookstore
The College Bookstore, located in room 1940, near the
West Classroom Complex on the main Farmington
campus, offers everything you will need for classes —
new and used textbooks, class supplies, electronic
equipment, San Juan College spirit wear and souvenirs
and supplies for special courses, such as drafting, art,
engineering, and others. Bring your class schedule when
you visit the Bookstore so we can help you locate the
right textbook or call (505) 566-3260.
Information on required and recommended textbooks
and supplemental material for courses can be found on
the Internet course schedule at sanjuancollege.edu or
at the bookstore website: https://bookstore.sanjuancollege.edu. You will be able to find both the International
Standard Book Number (ISBN) or author, title, publisher
and copyright date, as well as retail price.
For an up-to-date list of regular and special hours
go to: http://www.sanjuancollege.edu/bookstore
See http://bookstore.sanjuancollege.edu/
for more information or to order online.
Return policy
If you dropped a class and want to return your books for
a refund, you must have the receipt. Read the Bookstore
Textbook Refund Policy attached to your purchase for
the terms and conditions. A receipt is required for all
returns and exchanges. Please keep your receipt, it is
worth money! Do not write in your books until you know
that you will be going to a class. If you have written in
the book, it is no longer new and cannot be returned
for a refund.
Used books
The Bookstore buys back books at the end of each
semester in order to hold down book costs. The
date of the semester book buy back is listed on
the bookstore policy attached to the receipt of your
purchase. You don’t need a receipt if you are selling
at the end of the semester. You do need a receipt to
get a refund during the semester. If you won’t be here
for the end-of-semester buy back, the Bookstore runs
a year-round book buy back. Just bring in your books
with your cash register receipt, and we’ll verify that
they qualify for reselling.

UNM Extended Learning | Bachelor & Graduate Online Programs
Through partnership with the University of New Mexico’s four branch campuses, as well as selected community
colleges, UNM is able to expand opportunities for students around the state. Branches are responsible for lower-division
curriculum leading to a wide array of associate degrees. Extended Learning expands upon these efforts by creating the
path for students to attain selected University of New Mexico bachelor and advanced degrees through delivery of upperdivision and graduate-level programming. This programming is offered using online tools.
About Online Courses
By using a computer with Internet access, students
can take classes taught by regular UNM faculty on a
standard semester basis.
Online courses provide diverse interactions with
classmates and instructors, and use the same rigorous
materials as their classroom counterparts, while
providing greater freedom in choosing when and where
learning will take place.
While many online classes do not have fixed meeting
times, some instructors do require regular synchronous/
simultaneous meetings. Through web conferencing
tools, some classes offered at main campus can be
transmitted simultaneously for online participation from
other locations. All required synchronous class meetings
are listed in the schedule of classes.
Effective Summer 2016, there will be two types of
course delivery formats available.
1. Synchronous Online - has fixed meeting times.
Students log in at a scheduled time to participate in
the course. These courses (many offered formerly via
Interactive Television) are now available via desktop
with Internet accessibility, making it convenient for a
student to access the class.
2. Asynchronous Online - has no required meeting
times. Students log in and participate as their
schedule permits.
In both types of online course, UNM faculty have the
discretion to require face-to-face meetings, such as
for exams or lab work. Detailed course information
is available at the UNM Online Schedule of Classes.
Students are also encouraged to email questions about
the course format to professors.
Students can take individual online classes or work toward degree completion options.
For assistance with general student support, which includes admissions, financial aid, Veterans resources, and
advisement referrals, contact UNM Online Programs at toll-free (866) 869-6040 or email [email protected].
