Retaining What's Special: What is the one thing you would like to stay the same in Fort Collins 50 years from now? The Poudre River, open spaces available for recreation, good jobs and reasonable housing prices. The University - the culture A safe and prosperous community The population! The feel of Old Town square, foot traffic only shops and night life. Bike friendly town. The Old Town area and attractions/festivals. it's charm down town The Rio Open space and parks middling size Open space and commitment to environment A healthy vibrant old town retain historic aspects of community historic downtown architecture A great downtown A city with a unique personality that has urban amenities but is close to nature. Old town Parks and Recreation available. Bike paths in order to avoid roads. Hate conflicts with both sides. Quality of life. The high quality environment with its large amount of open space. Vibrancy of the community - opportunity, leading edge Downtown feel Bike-friendly, pet-friendly, breweries, Downtown & outdoor dining. Old Town & environs into surrounding neighborhoods retain their basic character indefinitely. Sustainable Old Town Business District. The small town feeling and sense of community. wide streets, lots of trees, Colorado State University, jobs small town feel Nothing. I want to see our Riverfront Improved and brought into the Old Town Footprint, The friendly community atmosphere. The number one place to live. Ensure nature is included in the community. Embrace and continue the bicycle and pedestrian friendly culture. This helps people smile at one another, increases health by being in a happy community with opportunities for exercise, reduces conflicts with neighbors since we see each other often. Keep Art and quality architecture alive in the community. Allows for a vibrant place to live. Keep the momentum on the amazing alleys and art on utility boxes. These are gems I stumble upon and enjoy often. Strong core downtown - maintaining a small town 'feel' even as the community grows. 8 Having the eclectic mix of housing and property sites in town. A horse property next to high density apartment building. the level of commitment to the community and volunteer spirit in the community Medium size community feel Preservation of wild life & wet lands near & around the metro Ft. Collins area The number of people living in Fort Collins and the amount of open space in and around Fort Collins. Bike trails The amount of parks and recreational opportunities. Friendly welcoming community that has good amenities but also has a smaller town feel. Continued support of senior services like Senior Center and Dial a Ride. A respect and focus on downtown. Bike and hiking trails the vibrant downtown as the human scale is now The magic of Fort Collins: that its people are free of prejudice against persons based on their income, wealth, or lack thereof. Quality of Life for all, especially kids and students. Parks and recreations. Bike lanes throughout the city connecting parks and shops. A lot of bike and hiking trails within 10 miles of the city. The ability to travel around town via bicycle. The rural feel of outlying areas in the GMA. The wonderful road system. Continue to have choices available to all people. Not to allow the City to limit choices about housing or transportation Our great parks 9. Shaping the Future: What is the one thing you would like to be different in Fort Collins 50 years from now? A more urban city with a focus on downtown (employment, housing) and the Mason Street Corridor. More choice in housing types, expanding urban housing, continuing to offer single-family housing, and expanding urban-type single family options like townhomes. More High Quality Recreation Centers. More basketball courts for children (shortage). Less government and lower taxes Better alternative transportation and better biking options I really, really, really would love to see a mass transit option from here to Denver. So would the students and all the business commuters. Less traffic on College Avenue. It's great the way it is! Jobs, but not at the expense of pollution. lack of diversity and education about diversity trucks are out of the city The Drunken Monkey Traffic no cars Transportation - improved public transportation in FC and to Denver More local distributed small retail more cultural diversity out of proportion spending on parks, recreation, arts, culture Regional rail A centralized city with a high density core that includes pedestrian friendly work, living, entertainment, and shopping opportunities. Train by-pass or roads over/under railroad More bike paths 9 Extensive bike paths, offroad to avoid having to ride in traffic. Fort Collins needs to densify. We have a limited growth area. Think up, not out. Traffic congestion Transportation alternatives expanded Fewer cars, more interactive transportation Reduce dependence on sales-tax. More intimate nhoods with individual village-like atmosphere and more self-contained relative to living, working, shopping, playing. Public infrastructure and constructed indoor environment is highly sustainable with respect to very long-term durability, net-zero/+, on-site/renewable energy generation, super water conservation, lifelong symbiotic interrelationship between human-made environments and natural ecosystems, Better planning of College Road commercial sprawl. Replace empty big box stores with greenspace. Improve traffic patterns. More social programs and less police. less social castes ie environmentalists vs business people I'd like to see FoCo to be on the forefront of innovation in city planning/design. Right now we are in the middle of the pack, doing what everybody else is doing but not leading. This is a great community with loads of smart people, but we need to leave some of our baggage behind & begin to really let our imagination run wild to get outside the box That we had a planning staff that knew what they were doing and not just attempting to do an end around the community on important community planning visions like the City Plan. "I want to see the City start ANNEXING all this Stray Un-Incorporated area around town that is currently UnIncorporated. I want the Richards Lake & Terry Lake area Improved. To go a step further, the Lake District North of Town has so much to offer the city. Let's annex it into town ASAP!" Improve upon the already existing quality of the experience while just living here. Make the entire town more like the downtown experience, street trees, sidewalks to enjoy an evening walk with your family, decentralizing and making more interesting intriguing community centers so people don't have to go to somewhere else, they are where they want to be. Realize we need to move away from our current use of the car which needs to happen sooner than later for environmental and social reasons and provide facilities that focus on the different modes of transportation that Thomas Frye was suggesting. Incorporate nature in our community more, green roofs, pedestrian gathering places spread out often and throughout the community. Environmental regulations that address the alarming global environmental concerns and move the attitude from optional participation to mandatory. Maybe need to guide those in local government who are not forward thinking to resign. If they are not hearing or supporting keeping FC the number one place to live and not looking toward the future to make FC what we want it to be these people may not be the best fit to represent the citizens of FC. More transportation options - less reliance on private automobiles occupied by one person Introduction of more roundabouts and other traffic control measures that are not necessarily signals. I'd like it to be a community that supports all of its citizens, especially those who work low-wage jobs and have difficulty making ends meet in our community More right turn lanes, or less of a need for them Designated charging stations employed with assistants to help people navigate the property (and or) premises surrounding malls or large retail environments. Less pollution, especially total emissions of CO2 and smog, and less water consumption, which would include restoring historical flows in the Poudre River. More bike trails More jobs! Less focus on buying land to prevent development and more focus on good job development to help people who live in the city find employment. A growth boundary, an agricultural greenbelt, and a food security plan. Better transportation options like PRT and or autonomous taxis more robots!! For homelessness to be eliminated. 10 Get the Rail Tracks Out of Town. It's very dangerous, creating traffic jams and serving nobody any good. Less traffic lights. Traffic congestion needs to be mitigated. Diverse and optional choices. Large homes if one were to choose, small homes if one were to choose. Big yard if one wanted to have it, or no yard if one wanted it. A street light on the corner of Kechter and Lady Moon before a teenage driver DIES on his/her way to school at Fossil Ridge! WE NEED A LIGHT THERE!!!!!! 10. How did you find out about this event?
