This report reflects Sales and Use Tax collected in September 2015 for economic activity that occurred in
August 2015. Please note the sales and use tax collected in September is predominately from August sales
but also includes delinquent collections from prior periods.

September Sales Tax Budget to Actual. In September 2015, sales tax collected in Fort Collins was $403K
above the amount budgeted. Year to date, the City has collected 3.2% more sales tax revenue than
budgeted, for a net gain of $2.5M.
September Use Tax Budget to Actual Excluding Rebates. In September 2015, use tax collected in Fort
Collins was $40K over the amount budgeted. Year to date, the City has collected 50.5% more use tax
revenue than budgeted for a net gain of $7.0M.

September Sales Tax Collected. In September 2015, sales tax collected in Fort Collins increased 3.3%
over September 2014. Sales tax collected totaled $9.2 million compared to $8.9 million in 2014.
September Use Tax Collected. The total use tax collected in September was $1.6 million, a decrease of
37.3% compared to last September. The estimated use tax collected in September related to economic
incentive agreements was $2K as illustrated on Figure 5. This amount will be rebated in the succeeding
calendar year. The net use tax collections for September totaled $1.6 million for a net 37.4% decrease.
Total Sales and Use Tax Collected. Total tax collected of $10.8M was 5.7% lower than last September.

At the national level, August 2015 retail sales (as reported on September 15, 2015) increased 2.2%
compared to the increase in Fort Collins’ sales of 2.8%. August 2015 sales are the basis for the City’s
September 2015 sales tax collections and net taxable amounts (which are included in this report).

Figure 12. Supplementary Information
Sales Tax in the City’s Downtown Area. The sales tax collected in September for the downtown area
decreased 5.9% from the same period in 2014.
Lodging Tax Collections. The City collected $159,446 in lodging taxes in September 2015. This was an
increase of 6.8 % from September 2014.
Sales Tax Licenses. There were 11,039 active sales tax licenses at the end of September.
