Dear Table Rocks Guided Hike Participant: 2016 will mark the 30th year of the Table Rocks Environmental Education Program! We hope you will join us on a guided hike with your class to celebrate this milestone. Hikes run April 1st through June 3rd , Tuesday through Friday. Both trails are located just outside Medford. The Lower Table Rock trail is 3.5 miles. The Upper Table Rock trail is 2.5 miles. Please review the following guidelines: Please respect the request for limited chaperones. Too many chaperones cause the group size to become unmanageable resulting in a diminished hiking experience. Keeping the group size to hike leader ratio low is the key to success. Thank you for your understanding and attention to this request. All guided hikes emphasize trail safety, leave-no-trace land ethics, and the natural and cultural history of the Table Rocks. Please let us know on your Registration Form if you have a specific topic that you would like us to emphasize during your hike (i.e. geology, Native Americans, botany, wildlife). Spanish/English bilingual guides may be available, please let us know on the form. Hikes take place rain or shine. Only in unsafe weather conditions should hikes be cancelled at the last minute. If scheduling conflicts occur and you need to cancel your hike, please inform us as soon as possible so we can register another group. We require a minimum of four hours for guided hikes to lead students/ groups up and down the rock safely. Please plan accordingly. Pre-hike classroom presentations are available as space allows. Visits include a PowerPoint presentation and an interactive adaptation kit. We will contact you to schedule presentation. Please take some time to prepare your group for their hike. Curriculum binders can be found in your school library and online http://www.blm.gov/or/resources/recreation/tablerock/curriculum.php We also encourage participants to explore the Table Rocks website. http://www.blm.gov/or/resources/recreation/tablerock/index.php Want to enhance your student’s hike experience? We are once again offering an opportunity to have two guides per class. Classes would be split in half with each group having their own hike leader. Teachers and program leads would need to have a qualified individual to act as lead chaperone for each group. Space is limited and subject to availability of staff. If interested, please indicate your preference on the registration form. What BLM Needs From You: To secure a reservation for your group use the fillable form and email, or print and fax the completed “2016 Table Rocks Hike Registration Form” located on our website http://www.blm.gov/or/resources/recreation/tablerock/index.php. Mail or fax your registration forms to: Attn: Table Rocks Environmental Education Program Bureau of Land Management 3040 Biddle Road Medford, Oregon 97504 FAX: (541) 734-4578 If you plan on leading your own hike, please contact the program lead to help us better coordinated our guided hikes and reduces our impact on the site. The Table Rocks are a Nature Conservancy preserve and designated as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) by the BLM. To avoid scheduling conflicts and to protect the site, we must keep the numbers of visitors at a manageable limit. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please call the Table Rocks Environmental Education Program Lead, Molly Allen, at (541) 618-2468, or email: [email protected]. Please indicate Table Rocks on the subject line. We must receive your completed registration form before we schedule your hike. Hikes are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Space is limited and our schedule fills quickly, so it is best to return the form as soon as possible in order to reserve your preferred date. The BLM appreciates your participation. We look forward to another great season on the Table Rocks! Sincerely, The Table Rocks Environmental Education Crew
