o ky M Roc From 1843 to 1869 the largest voluntary migration in history took place on the route we call the OregonTrail. Most travelers began their journeys from cities along the Missouri River. On a good day of travel a wagon train was able to move up to 20 miles. The Trail followed the Platte River, and crossed the continental divide at South Pass. Arriving at Oregon City and the end of the Oregon Trail did not mean that their journey was over— rather it was just beginning! s. tn Blu eM ins ta Oregon City un Columbia Riv er Baker City Sna k approximate scale: e R iv er Pass th u So Plat te Council Bluffs R i ver Independence 1 inch = 200 miles National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center | Baker City, Oregon | oregontrail.blm.gov
