ARTiculture is the convergence of art and horticulture located at the Gardens on Spring Creek,
the community botanic garden of Fort Collins.
This year’s sculptures were selected based on
their broad and unique characteristics chosen by
a jury. The subject matter and materials for the
sculptures allow guests to have an opportunity
to experience a variety of sculptural styles in a
beautiful botanic setting. The show also provides
great visibility for the participating artists with over
70,000 guests visiting The Gardens annually.

1. Good Morning Sunshine, Reven Marie Swanson
www.revenswanson.com
“Reaching across the sky, this flying creature balances the
heavens. This figure is part of a building series, the ‘Moon
Creature Series.’ The sculpture dances, celebrates a natural
harmony with the wind. The artwork is about change,
balance and growth. She speaks for the universal woman
describing the relationship between the instinctual-self
alongside the contemporary, modern-day self. The work is
mounted above ground to imply flight and moves freely
with the ever-changing wind.”
2. Belt Broken, Chet Haring
www.haringworks.wix.com/chetharing
“Belt Broken is an exploration of movement in a static
material. Making machine parts out of stone challenges not
only the technical/physical aspect of the material, but also
the idea that the object has a longevity beyond its intended
purpose. The breaking belt invites the viewer to look at the
integrity of the objects and systems that are the foundation
of modern culture.”
3. Miss Ellie, Jade Windell
www.johnalexdeane.com
“Miss Ellie is limestone with a lot of texture to catch the
sunlight. The stone is deceiving being thin, the texture
makes it look bold and thick from the side.”
4. Gorgeous Gertie, Sherrill Stone
www.sherrillstone.com
“As I foraged through my stones seeking my next project, I
came across this flat piece of marble, and on the heels of
my previous piece, CLORESE, I thought, “A-ha!, another fish
for my series,‘Fish Foibles’!” I proceeded the undertaking
of Gorgeous Gertie Grouper. As I get older, I find I am
more attracted to humor than to the seriousness that most
pieces of marble sculptures seem to bring. I like the idea of
comical, whimsical animals – at the moment, they are fish.
So, here’s Gorgeous Gertie.”

5. Sentinel, Jack Haggerty
www.kaikouraproductions.com
“Sentinel is a sculpture in my current line of Contemporary
Totems. Contemporary Totems are expressions of our
multiple identities in today’s world. Totems traditionally were
created by selecting archetypical symbols to represent clan,
family, or an individual. Often these were animal figures
with predetermined characteristics and meanings. I propose
that any totem one feels a kinship to is a contemporary
totem. I strive to impact my sense of aesthetic, incorporate
archetypical themes, and display my emotional reactions
to the world in every piece. When a viewer is drawn to and
moved by a totemic sculpture, they transfer their own view
of the world onto it, and thus it begins to represent them on
a personal level. The interaction of the artist’s ideas with that
of the viewer’s identifications is what enlivens and animates
a contemporary totem. The totem truly makes a statement
about how the viewer perceives and wants to be perceived
in this world.”
6. Wellness Globe, Ivan Kosta
www.ivankosta.com
“Four pairs of human figures attached by hands and feet
rotating in a joyous global motion.”
7. Bliss, Isaac Hollenback
www.forged-element.com
“This sculpture was just a fun piece I built last spring.”
8. Kite Flying, Maureen Hearty
www.mauxheartdesigns.com
“The impressionistic figure, built from reclaimed steel, is
entwined in the kite strings while the kite with plasma cut
wind patterns (which create great shadows) soars above.
Along the kite’s lines, a transformation of bird forms into the
kite itself takes place, referencing our fascination with flight
and interactions with nature.”
9. The Boxer, Merle Harding
www.skyrocksculpture.weebly.com
“He’s rough, he’s tough, he’s bad and bold and he will knock
your socks off – in a good, non-violent way, of course…”
