What is Wimba Pronto?

“Chatting in the virtual hallways”
Is an academic based Instant Messaging service – similar to Skype
Courses and students are automatically generated and displayed
Students and instructors must first install the Pronto client before being
able to use it
Informal communication
Office hours, meetings, group work, etc.
Can be used for audio and video chat
Chat logs are automatically saved – but can be disabled
Heavily used in ITP Program courses
How To Access Pronto
Pronto is currently available to all instructors and students
1. Click on the Communication area of your course
2. Click on the Wimba Pronto link
3. Click on the Download
Pronto button
Choosing Your Courses
Pronto allows users to customize which courses they want to appear in the
Pronto contact list
Contacts List
• This tab houses your constant
contacts – friends, study groups, coworkers, etc.
• Initially, this tab is empty. You will
need to manually add your
contacts.
• You may add anyone that has a
Pronto account. It is not limited to
your institution.
Classmates List
• This tab lists the Pronto users from
your courses or organizations
• This list is automatically generated
based on enrollments.
• Users from this list can be added
to your Contacts tab
School List
• This tab lists the Institution’s
contacts
• These contacts are created by the
eCampus Ed. Tech. department
• Certain Pronto users are
designated as the contacts for these
groups
Chat Window
• Text chatting
• Audio chat
• Video and Audio chat
• Appshare (screen share)
• White board
Video Chat
Whiteboard
Group Chat
• Can invite users to be
a part of a group chat
• Voice, Video, and
Whiteboard can all be
used in a group chat
Pronto Settings
• Can add a picture of
yourself
• Provide an “About Me”
section
• Provide links to websites
• Adjust other Pronto user
settings – privacy,
appearance (font, colors),
video input, video quality,
audio enhancements, etc.
