CRF Heinold Memorial Award

E G U L A T I O N S
Purpose
1.1. The CRF Heinold Memorial Award was established in 1989 in memory of the late Conrad Rudolf Heinold
to support Faculty of Science and Engineering students who are studying or are undertaking project work
in the area of meat production, as part of the requirements of their qualification.
2.
Eligibility
2.1. To be eligible for consideration for this Scholarship, applicants must:
a) be enrolled in the second or third year of a Bachelor of Science (Technology) (BSc(Tech)); or,
b) be enrolled in the second or third year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (BE (Hons)); and,
c) be enrolled in at least one of the following placement papers: SCIE371, SCIE372, SCIE373,
SCIE374, ENGG371 or ENGG372.
3.
Value
3.1.
One scholarship will be awarded and shall have a value of up to $2,0001 and will be paid in one lump
sum to the successful recipient in November.
3.2.
The scholarship will include a placement or research project where the applicant will undertake project
work in the area of meat production, as part of the requirements of their (BSc(Tech) or BE(Hons)
qualification.
4. Application
4.1.
The closing date for applications is 23 October (extended deadline)
4.2.
Applicants should complete the official CRF Heinold Memorial Award application form.
4.3.
Along with the application form, each applicant must submit:
a)
a letter of application;
b)
a description of the proposed project/placement being carried out in the area of meat production;
and,
c)
a brief CV (no longer for four A4 pages in length).
5. Selection criteria
5.1.
The Scholarship will be offered on the basis of academic merit. The Panel will also take into
consideration the potential contribution of the applicant’s research to the field, and the benefit of the
project work to the applicant’s career.
5.2.
Applications will be shortlisted by the Director of Co-operative Education and the Placement Coordinator
for Science and will be based on the eligibility criteria outlined in clause 2.1 above.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview with the host placement organisation.
The award will be made annually, subject to availability of funds.

6. Selection Panel
6.1.
The panel will comprise of a Representative of the host placement organisation, up to two
representatives of the University of Waikato’s Co-Operative Education Unit and the Scholarships
Committee representative from the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
6.2.
The Selection Panel may refrain from making a recommendation if it finds no candidate of sufficient
merit.
6.3.
The Selection Panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into following the
selection meeting.
7. Awarding
7.1.
The Scholarship will have a maximum tenure of one year and will begin at the start of the placement
(typically mid-November).
8. Other Conditions
8.1.
The Scholarship may be held together with any scholarship, bursary, prize or student allowance, unless
the conditions of the other award preclude this.
8.2.
The offer of a Scholarship must be accepted by the date indicated in the letter of offer. If any candidate
declines a Scholarship, or does not take it up, the Selection Panel may offer the Scholarship to another
person.
8.3.
The Scholarships Committee may terminate a Scholarship at any time and recoup any funds awarded, if
it is satisfied, that the recipient is not following the required programme or is not otherwise complying
with the conditions governing the Scholarship and/or the regulations of the University of Waikato.
8.4.
The holder of a Scholarship will have the right to appeal to the appropriate Education Committee
against any decision to terminate the Scholarship.
8.5.
The University may from time to time vary these regulations.
8.6.
By accepting an Award, the recipient agrees to participate in any publicity concerning the scholarship
arranged by the University of Waikato and AgResearch.
