Alsea Falls Mountain Bike Trail Segments Detoured Week Days
Salem, Ore. -- Beginning May 16, 2016, the BLM Salem District will temporarily close portions
of the mountain biking trail system at Alsea Falls to ensure the safety of the public during active
timber operations. The temporary closure will be in effect Mondays through Fridays. The entire
Fall Creek Mountain Bike Trail System will be open to foot and bike traffic on Saturdays and
Sundays.
The Fall-Cole Timber Sale has been sharing some roads with the Fall Creek Trail System over
the last year. The road renovation period for the timber sale, beginning May 16, will significantly
increase the number of large trucks on Fall Creek Road and make it unsafe for timber operations
and recreationalists to use the same road at the same time.
The BLM has developed an alternate route for mountain bikers to access the majority of the trail
system during the temporary closure period. The BLM will provide maps and detour route
signing at the site. The map can also be viewed on the BLM Salem District Website at: http://blm.gov/xrmd
The trails, built in partnership with the Corvallis-based group Team Dirt, are a gravity-assisted
system designed for users of all abilities and skill levels. The weekday temporary closure of the
roads and trails will continue until the end of the Fall-Cole Timber Sale Contract, November
2017, unless rescinded earlier by the BLM. To learn more about this awesome trail system head

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This
land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states,
including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate
throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use
and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained
yield. In Fiscal Year 2015, the BLM generated $4.1 billion in receipts from activities occurring on
public lands.
