APPROVAL TO ENROL IN MAPPPSY PROGRAMME (for School use only) The above student has fulfilled the requirements for entry to the MAppPsy programme and may enrol in graduate courses in the School of psychology. …………………………………………………………….(for Graduate Studies Committee) The above student has discussed paper selection and is approved to enrol in the papers listed above …………………………………………………………….(Programme Co-ordinator) Admin_com/psychology forms/MAppPsy application form Year 1 PLEASE TURN OVER 2 GUIDELINES FOR ENROLLING IN MASTERS IN APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY (MAppPsy) To apply for entry to the MAppPsy, you must have: completed an undergraduate degree, with a major in Psychology; passed PSYC307 Research Methods, or equivalent third year research methods/statistics course; obtained a B+ average across your 300 level Psychology papers OR across the papers which make up your undergraduate Psychology major.1 and for the Behaviour Analysis programme only, a pass in the undergraduate paper PSYC314 Behaviour Analysis (or an equivalent paper) is required Students who have already completed an Honours degree or Post Graduate Diploma in psychology may apply for Year Two of the MAppPsy. You must have achieved at least a B+ average across the psychology papers in your Honours degree/PGDip. If you have already completed Level 5 papers and these are equivalent to core papers for the degree, it may be possible to have waived some of the 240 points required for the degree. You should signal in your application if you wish relevant papers to be considered. Applications can be made both at the beginning of the Calendar year, or midyear, and should submitted a month prior to the start of the relevant semester. To apply for the programme, you must first apply to the School of Psychology using the attached form and then complete the University enrolment process either online or in person at FASS. Organisational Psychology– Michael O’Driscoll, Room J1.03, ext 8899, email: [email protected] All students entering Year Two of the programme and starting their thesis must complete the MAppPsy Application Form: for Continuation to Year 2 of the Programme and submit this to the main Psychology Office at the same time as their enrolment application. This form is available from the Psychology website and from the main Psychology Office. Students from universities other than the University of Waikato must attach a copy of their academic record. Confirmation of acceptance will not be given until formal notification of grades is received. You will be advised in writing as soon as possible of the outcome of this application. 1 Grade averages are computed for graduates from the University of Waikato, using numeric marks, and a 70% cut-off for a B+ average (or GPA 3.33 in North American colleges and universities). For University of Waikato graduates, marks in the following papers will be included in the calculation of this requirement. BSocSc graduates – either (1) psychology third-year papers with best marks totalling 60 points, or (2) the 150 points of psychology papers which make up your undergraduate major. for BSocSc(Hons) graduates – all 500-level psychology papers. Similar procedures will be followed for calculating grade averages for applicants who have graduated from other universities, using appropriate marking scales (e.g., GPA).
