Fire Closure Lifted on BLM Lands in Washington State
Spokane, WA – Effective October 16, the Bureau of Land Management Spokane District is
ending the regulated fire closure on public lands it manages in the state of Washington. The fire
closure is no longer necessary due to recent precipitation and cooler temperatures.
In Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Okanogan, and Yakima counties campfires are
allowed in established campgrounds only.
The Liberty campsite approximately 20 miles north of Ellensburg, WA on Highway 97 remains
closed until further notice due to fire danger.
The BLM asks the public to use caution when operating motorized vehicles on roads and trails that
have areas of high grass and vegetation and to ensure campfires are completely out before leaving
the area. Additional information about the BLM Spokane District is available online at:

-BLMThe BLM manages more land – 245 million surface acres – than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the
National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of
about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM’s
multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and
future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing,
mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public
lands.
