Wild Horse Adoption Cancelled
Spokane, Wash. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has cancelled its wild horse adoption
event scheduled for June 10 and 11 at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds in Ellensburg, Washington.
The cancellation is in response to recent reports that horses may have contracted the equine EHV-1
virus after participating in competitions hosted throughout the western United States within the last
month. Several upcoming regional horse events have been voluntarily cancelled as a precautionary
measure to prevent the spread of this disease, including the BLM’s wild horse adoption in
Ellensburg.
For more information on this adoption cancellation, please call the BLM’s Burns District Office at
(541) 573-4400. Additional information about the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Adoption
Program is available online at: www.blm.gov/adoptahorse.
