Alsea South Fork Backcountry Byway Closed for Culvert
Replacement
Mondays through Thursdays from May 5-22, 2014
Salem, Ore.— The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Salem District will be
closing six miles of the Alsea South Fork Back Country Byway just east of Alsea Falls
Recreation Area to replace certain culverts.
The road will be closed to through traffic Mondays through Thursdays between May 5
and May 22. The road will reopen weekly from Friday through Sunday to
accommodate weekend traffic.
BLM’s Alsea Falls Recreation Area will remain accessible seven days a week from the
community of Alsea. The Day Use Area opened May 1. The campground will open May
22. The trail along the falls, which was renovated last winter, offers great scenic views of
Alsea Falls.
The South Fork Alsea River National Back Country Byway links the communities of Alsea
and Alpine. It is often used as an alternate route to the town of Waldport along the Central
Oregon Coast.
