Peavine Road Repair Work
Grants Pass, Ore. -- The Medford District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be closing the
Peavine Road (BLM Road 35-8-2.0) at Mile Post 3.4 (T35-R08W-S34) for a road failure repair
project. Work is projected to begin on October 5, and projected to end on October 29. The road
will be impassable during that time. Revisions or updates to these closure dates will be provided as
the work proceeds. The Galice Access Road (BLM Road 34-8-36.0) will remain open.
The Peavine Road provides the only winter access to much of the BLM and U.S. Forest Service
lands west of Galice, and serves one residence. The objective of the project is to reestablish a
stable fill slope and reconstruct the roadway and shoulder that was damaged. This project consists
of reconstruction/repair of approximately 50 feet of road where a fill slope failed during heavy
rains in February 2015.
Additional information about the BLM’s Medford District is available online at:
http://www.blm.gov/or/districts/medford/index.php
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known
as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also
administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage
and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of
multiple-use and sustained yield. In Fiscal Year 2014, the BLM generated $5.2 billion in receipts from public lands.
