FIRE UPDATE
Lakeview, OR – Fire activity in the SCOFMP area slowed during the last day of the Red Flag
Warning on Sunday. On June 28th, fire activity slowed to 2 new fires both on the FremontWinema National Forest. The Luther Mountain fire was contained at 0.5 acres while the smaller
Buffalo fire was contained at 0.1 acres.
SCOFMP consists of lands managed by the Fremont-Winema National Forest (FS), the Bureau
of Land Management Lakeview District (BLM), Oregon Department of Forestry Klamath - Lake
District (ODF), National Park Service - Crater Lake (NPS), and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Sheldon-Hart & Klamath Basin (FWS).
National Weather Service – Medford, has issued a Special Weather Statement for hot
temperatures expected midweek through the holiday weekend with a chance of thunderstorms on
Thursday through Independence Day. It is possible temperature records will get broken
especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with less relief at night with above normal low
temperatures.
Keep the following tips in mind during the upcoming hot weather. Drink plenty of water, limit
physical activity outdoors, wear sunscreen, and seek shaded areas to cool down. Never leave
children, disabled persons, and/or pets unattended in parked vehicles.
