Who/What: The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Eugene District Office would like to invite you on a field trip to look at a proposed timber sale for 2014. While the 2014 timber sale project consists primarily of young stand thinning, the focus for this trip will be to look at the proposed regeneration harvest within the project. This project, called “Second Show”, would be done in conformance with the northwest forest plan on approximately 350 acres and would explore concepts advocated by Drs. Norm Johnson and Jerry Franklin. You will have opportunities to ask questions or to comment during the day. When/Where: We will be meeting at the Springfield Interagency Office, 3106 Pierce Parkway Wednesday, August 22 at 8:00 am. There will be an important pre-trip briefing and departure to the field at 8:45. Because of the interest in the trip, we will facilitate carpooling to the site as much as possible. We will be making three stops during the trip which should conclude by 3 pm. RSVP: If you would like to attend the field trip, please email us at [email protected] by close of business Monday August 20. Safety: Anyone is welcome to attend, but you are responsible for your own transportation. We encourage carpooling since we may have a large turnout. Due to the unpredictable nature of the roads in which we will be traveling, we recommend you bring a vehicle with a high ground clearance. Four –wheel or Allwheel is not necessary, but it is recommended. The roads have loose gravel, potholes, dusty and rocky conditions. While out in the field, we recommend sturdy hiking boots with Vibram-type soles. Please, no flip-flops or sandals, as we will be hiking through brush during the trip. We recommend long sleeves and pants. Please bring adequate supply of food and water for your personal needs during the trip. Accommodations: Should anyone need any special accommodations, please contact Bill O’Sullivan, (541) 683-6287, or Pat Johnston, (541) 683-6181. Where we will meet: We will park/meet on the southwest corner of the main building as indicated on the map. When you pull into the main gate, make your first right, then turn left and follow past the entrance with the flags.
