To have your application considered for admission to the University of Waikato by Discretionary Entrance you must
complete and submit this form and submit an application to enrol. This form is compulsory for applications under
Discretionary Entrance.
Applicants that have left Secondary School and do not have a university entrance qualification, may apply for
Discretionary Entrance and will be considered on a case by case basis, provided the following criteria are met.
 You are a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand
 You will be at least 16 years of age and under 20 years of age when you begin your studies
 You have received secondary schooling to at least NZ Year 12 level (or overseas equivalent)
PLUS
 Have at least 14 credits in an approved subject at level 2 towards NCEA and have met the literacy and
numeracy standards required for University Entrance.
AND
 Either you have not completed Year 13 at a New Zealand secondary school
OR
 You have undertaken study in Year 13 and are applying from Semester B of the following year.
Please note that a $50 admission charge is required at the time of enrolment for applicants successful under Discretionary
Entrance (refer to the Table of Fees & Charges section of the University of Waikato Calendar)

Numeracy. At Level 1 or higher, 10 credits from specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects or from
a package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627- all three required)
Literacy. At Level 2 or higher, 10 credits. 5 Reading and 5 Writing from the specified NZQA list
