Dear Student,
I am writing to ask your help. The Academic Senate of CSU has set up a Working Party to investigate
the amount of time that is expected to make up a student’s workload in studying a CSU subject. We
are using the CSU 8 point subject as our unit of analysis, and we have examined a range of Internal
and DE subject outlines from all Faculties. We have estimated the amount of time we THINK that a
student might take to complete the activities staff have designed to enable them to meet the learning
objectives of the subject.
Now we would like to check by asking the people who actually do the subjects, i.e. the students. We
are also asking all staff members to indicate how much time they expect their students to spend on
their subjects. We are asking staff and students to complete the same survey sheet.
We are not trying to find out how much time a student needs to spend to get a particular grade; we
want to know how much time you think you have spent to successfully complete your subjects this
semester, regardless of the grade you are aiming for.
We will report the results of this survey to Academic Senate, and it will be made available to all
participants through the CSU website.
We will be very grateful if you can take the time to fill it in and return it to [email protected]. by
Friday, November 14.
The School of Commerce Ethics Committee has approved this survey. If you have any complaints or
reservations about the ethical conduct of the survey, you may contact the Committee through
