Disaster Victim Identification The course in Disaster Response affords the opportunity to develop and train key staff in Crisis and Emergency Management to meet the demands of Mass Fatality Incidents through natural disaster, terrorism, civil unrest, accident or deliberate act. The course is underpinned by the principles of The INTERPOL DVI Guidelines and to prepare organisations for the challenges of managing mass fatality incidents in both a national and international scenario. The course aims to enable participants to develop a thorough appreciation of the critical aspects of effective operational control in major non-routine events involving mass fatalities. On completion participants should be able to: Articulate a vision of what is required to ensure that commanders of the future are as prepared as they possibly can be to deal with the next major disaster; Demonstrate an understanding of the principles underpinning effective DVI operations in a wide range of mass fatality operations; Display an understanding of options and practical solutions in accordance with the INTERPOL DVI Guidelines. Be able to mitigate against the competing risks and priorities in DVI operations; Be in a position to meet the challenges of particular DVI operations, e.g. natural disasters, terrorist attack, deliberate act or accident; Demonstrate an understanding of the political, legal and community dimensions of DVI operations; Understand the importance of a command structure is and the potential impact of delaying the establishment and clear communication of that structure; Have a view on the local, regional, national and international responses to each incident, in the response and recovery phase of a DVI operation. The training for each functional area of DVI can be delivered separately as the aforementioned program provides a strategic overview of mass fatality operations. The functions being; Casualty Bureau Family Liaison Investigation (Ante Mortem) Body recovery Resilience Mortuary Procedures (Post Mortem) Reconciliation Property Repatriation
