Your purchase of renewable energy certifi cates (RECs) is supporting electricity production in Wyoming,
Colorado, Oklahoma and Kansas. For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of
RECs is produced. The purchase of RECs helps offset conventional electricity generation in the region where the
renewable electricity generator is located. The purchase also helps build a market for renewable electricity and
may have other local and global environmental benefi ts such as reducing global climate change and regional air

*PILOTs: A 6 percent PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) has been added to electric, green energy, water and wastewater rates. This is a
payment to the City’s general fund to replace revenue the City would receive from the Utilities in taxes and franchise fees if the utilities
were privately owned. With PILOTs, the Green Energy Program rate is 2.544 cents per kWh.

Fort Collins Utilities’ Green Energy Program
Green Energy costs an additional 2.4 cents per kWh, plus PILOTS1. Green Energy is sold in
blocks of 208 kWh, 417 kWh or 100% of electricity usage for residential customers; and in
blocks of 1,042 kWh or 100% of electricity usage for non-residential customers. Customers are
asked to sign a twelve-month agreement when signing up. The program requires a 30-day
termination process. The product consists of the following new renewable resources averaged
annually.

With the purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs), you are buying the renewable attributes (i.e. environmental
benefits) of a specific amount and type of renewable energy generation. The purchase of RECs helps offset
conventional electricity generation in the region where the renewable generator is located. The purchase also helps
build a market for renewable electricity and may have other local and global environmental benefits, including reducing
global emissions and regional air pollution. Fort Collins Utilities’ Green Energy Program is certified by Green-e® Energy,
which annually verifies Fort Collins’ purchase and use of these RECs toward the program. For more information, visit

Eligible 2014 renewables are generation facilities in operation on or after January 1, 2000. Eligible 2015 renewables
are generation facilities in operation on or after January 1, 2001. Green-e Energy also has agreed to certify the
renewable energy supply from the Medicine Bow Wind Project, which includes some turbines that began operation in
1998 and 1999.

preceding year. The mix above represents the resource makeup of the renewable electricity you have purchased from
Fort Collins Utilities. The remainder of your electricity, what you receive outside purchasing green energy, contained
the following mix of electricity resources: coal (73.2%), hydro (19.3%), renewables (4.4%), natural gas (.2%), Tariff
1 renewables – Spring Canyon (1.2%) and other (1.7%). The 4.4% renewables includes the renewables called for by
Fort Collins’ Energy Policy.

renewables – Spring Canyon (8.1%) and other (6.3%). The 4.3% renewables includes the renewables called for by
Fort Collins’ Energy Policy.
