Religious Texts As for you (Noah and his family) - bear fruit and multiply, swarm on the earth and multiply in it." Genesis 9:7 Now Joseph died, and all his brothers, and that whole generation. Yet, the Children of Israel bore fruit, they swarmed, they became many, they grew mighty in number - exceedingly, yes, exceedingly; the land filled up with them. Exodus 1:6-7 Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, so that the land could not support both of them living together; for their possessions were so great that they could not live together, and there was strife between the herders of Abram's livestock and the herders of Lot's livestock. Genesis 13:5 Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, his cattle, all his livestock, and all the property he had acquired in the land of Canaan; and he moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob. For their possessions were too great for them to live together; the land where they were staying could not support them because of their livestock. So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir; Esau is Edom. Genesis 36:6 Parable of the Talents 14 Jesus told this parable to his disciples: "Just as a man, journeying, called his own slaves and handed over the things being his to them; 15 and to one, on the one hand, he gave five talents, but to another two, but to each according to their own power and he journeyed away immediately. 16 Going, the one having taken the five talents worked hard in them, and profited another five. 17 Likewise, the one with two profited another two. 18 But the one having taken one, having gone away, dug the ground and concealed his master's silver. 19 But after a long time the master of those slaves comes and settles accounts with them. 20 And the one who having taken five talents having come forward, brought another five talents, saying, 'Master, you handed over to me five talents; behold, another five talents have I profited.' 21 His master said to him, 'Well, good and faithful slave; over little you have been faithful, over much will I put you in charge. Enter into the joy of your master.' 22 And the one with the two talents having come forward said, 'Master, you handed over to me two talents; behold, another two talents have I profited.' 23 His master said to him, 'Well, good and faithful slave; over little you have been faithful, over much will I put you in charge. Enter into the joy of your master.' 24 But the one, in the one talent taking coming said, 'Master, I knew that you were a harsh man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed; 25 and being afraid, having gone away, I concealed your talent in the ground. Behold, have what is yours.' 26 But having answered his master said to him, 'You evil and lazy slave! You knew that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? 27 It is necessary then that you threw my silver to the moneychangers and having come, I would have received what was my own with interest. 28 Take away, then, the talent from him, and give it to him holding the ten talents. 29 For, to the one having, all will be given, and they will be abounding; but the one not having, even what they have will be taken away from them. 30 And the worthless slave, throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
