Kinki
• The Kinki region (近畿地方, kinki-chihou)
consists of southern Honshu's (本州) two
main prefectures Oosaka-fu [大阪府] and
Kyouto-fu [京都府 ], as well as the five
prefectures Hyougo-ken [兵庫県] , Mie-ken
[三重県], Nara-ken [奈良県], Shiga-ken [滋
賀県] and Wakayama-ken [和歌山県].
While Kinki and Kansai are basically
synonymous words, the word Kansai, 関西,
is usually used to refer to the 'triangle'
region Oosaka, Kyouto and Koube [神戸].

Kinki
• For even more fun, the kansaiben you
probably know is most likely actually
Oosakaben; the dialect of Kinki Japanese
spoken in the Oosaka area. Since it's fairly
hard to tell what's what without knowing
what the (sometimes not so) subtle
differences are between the flavours of
Kansaiben, this section's here to at least
explain what the heck that version of
Japanese is supposed to be interpreted as.

Kansaiben
Words are often contracted in kansaiben:
you (よう) for yoku (よく) meaning "well"
chau (ちゃう) for chigau (違う) meaning "be
different" or "be wrong"
omoroi (おもろい) for omoshiroi (面白い)
meaning "interesting" or "fun"
honja (ほんじゃ) for soreja (それじゃ)
meaning "Well then..." or "See you later"

Kinki
. The Kinki region is surrounded by the Sea of Japan to the north,
the Chubu region to the east, the Chugoku region to the west,
and the Pacific Ocean to the south. It can be said that the Kinki
region is most well known for the Kansai area.
The name Kinki made up of two characters, kin, the character for
"close" and ki, a character for "capital". Therefore meaning "close
to the capital"; Kyoto. This name has its beginning from way
before the Meiji Era and the establishment of the prefectural
sytem.
* Sometimes Mie prefecture is and is not included in the Kansai
region. When not included in the Kansai region, it is included in
the Tokai area.

might experience mojibake.
