How do Hosts pause or stop the webcam in a meeting? Hosts can: 1. control their own and their participants’ webcams in a meeting. 2. pause their own or participants’ webcams in a meeting by: i. hovering the mouse over the far right hand bottom corner of the video pod: and ii. selecting the pause icon. This will pause the webcam. Participants will see the video pod with the webcam paused icon. Hosts will see the video pod with a play icon in the middle of the video pod. 3. re-start the webcam by selecting the play icon (triangle) in the middle of the video pod. 4. stop their webcam by selecting the “Stop My Webcam. 5. minimise download for participants by minimising the use of the webcam. Hosts are encouraged to: i. implement best practice with web conferencing by: i. limiting webcam use to a short introductory minute or two and then pause or stop the webcam. i. modelling the behaviour they expect from their participants by minimising their own webcam use. This enables participants who may be coming in from a distance on ADSL to use the available bandwidth to see the screens and hear the sound that may be more important to them than the facial expressions of the Host. An exception would be where facial images may be essential as part of the learning. ii. minimise participant’s webcam use: i. choose NOT TO ENABLE webcam for participants; If Hosts decide to enable webcam for participants in a group then: i. limit webcam to only a very small subset of participants at a time. ii. Hosts need to make sure they: instruct participants how to use the pause function; let participants know that if they don’t use the pause function then their: sound quality may be affected; system may struggle to download the ever changing videostream. ii. ask participants to pause their webcam after they have shown their image if webcam is enabled. iii. if participants fail to pause their webcam Hosts can: pause the webcam for the participant. disable webcam for participants by unticking “Enable Webcam for Participants”.
