Building community-university partnerships Heather Robinson, head of campus Charles Sturt University (CSU) invites applications for its 2015 Community-University Partnerships (CUP) Grant Program. Applications are invited from schools and community organisations across the university's regional footprint for the rural and regional education development category. The Rural and Regional Education Development Program is a small grant program (generally for amounts between $500 and $1,000) to assist primary and secondary schools and not-forprofit early childhood centres in our regions to acquire equipment or consumables to facilitate learning and engagement of students with schooling. In 2014, $7000 was distributed by the university for educational projects in the central west to support a diverse range of activities including the purchase of equipment to support music, sports and science programs, an upgrade to a children’s play area, a vegetable patch and chicken run and a contribution towards creek rehabilitation. The goal of the CUP program is to support the development of our regions through contributions to cultural, economic, sporting and related activities and build higher education aspiration and awareness particularly amongst young people in rural and regional communities. CSU sees the program as an investment in community-university partnerships. Applications for the CUP Rural and Regional Education Development Program category close on Monday 31 March. Relevant organisations that have a project or activity that meets the program criteria are encouraged to apply. The other CUP categories will seek applications later in the year. These include the Rural and Regional Sports Development Program (in May), and later the Rural and Regional Arts and Culture Program.
